Re: Cancer sucks

I'm so sorry. I have more experience with canine cancer than I would wish on anyone, and I know the worry and fear you must be feeling now. I'm hoping for the best possible outcome for Rain and wishing you strength in the decisions you face.

Re: Dog smell

Also make sure you're maintaining good ear and dental health! Dirty, yeasty ears and smelly saliva (that they spread all over themselves when they groom) can contribute to general odor.

Re: At what age is this breed considered a senior?

All three of mine are seniors. I've never had all seniors at once before, and it does freak me out. My 12 year old lab has been battling lymphoma for 2 years, and her bad hips are really starting to weaken recently. She has a good quality of life now, but I fear that may not last much longer. Riley ...

Re: Protien levels in food?

I don't know anything about nutrition, but I've switched all three of my dogs to grain-free, higher protein foods and I really couldn't be happier with the visible results I'm seeing. My 12 year old chocolate lab has been doing wonderfully with Nature's Variety Instinct for the two years she's been ...

Re: Kibble help

Riley did fantastic on Nature's Variety Prairie salmon formula, and I would've kept her on it but my other dog needed a switch and I wanted them both eating the same food. NV's kibble size is relatively small.

Big fan of Orijen also, but it is Canadian and grain free.

Re: Healhy diets for dogs - The pros, the cons, and society

Nutrition is really a specialized area (I don't go to my general physician and ask him to give me the nitty gritty about all of the best diet options for me), and I think that historically there hasn't been a demand for small animal nutrition specialization. But I see our society gradually moving in...

Oh my heart is breaking for you. It hurts SO much to be strong, but it's the most beautiful and selfless gift that you are giving to Ella. Hold on to that. Your PBF family is with you in spirit today.

Re: It's Lymphoma Large Cell Type.

Oh god Rebecca, I'm so sorry. I'm glad to hear you're getting a second opinion from a specialist. That will at least make more clear to you exactly what all of your options are. My lab was diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago (it had spread to her spleen also, but she did seem to respond to prednis...
