Absolutely. The trainer should tailor methods to the dog. I've trained dogs on haltis, choke collars, prong collars, flat collars, and martingales.

Lil stray puppy in Sacramento

A couple in Pogo's training class found an 8-10wk old black/seal female pit bull pup a week ago and so far have not found an owner looking for her. She is very bully looking and has an underbite. Adorable and feisty, she is fussy about having her mouth/head/feet handled, but the couple fostering are...

How to position your bike defensively: This is for use mainly against stray/loose dogs in urban areas. Unfortunately, the asshats in my neighborhood all think their dogs are Lassie reincarnated.... I bike with my dog(s) on the right, and I strongly encourage others to bike with their dogs away from ...

I'm still boggling over the comment that we don't know the long-term effects of early spay/neuter. It's only been common practice (at least in my area) for 20 years! roflmao

Be my guest. They should be forewarned that Ms Diarrhea not only is feeling better, but climbed on my desk, knocked down/ate/tried to eat the training treats, dog biscuits, and bully sticks that were on top of my bookshelf. So, if she's left loose, NO FOOD IN THE ROOM!

Right now, Tonka is basically a courtesy listing through YCSPCA. I'm the only one who's spent money on her, but in return I get whatever adoption fee is received (which will be pretty puny considering her age/health). Tonka is honestly about as healthy as she can be given the neglect that she had fo...

Holy cow has this fallen down the list! lol So, here's my random ethical dilemma: Tonka had nasty diarrhea earlier this week, and her bloodwork & x-rays showed nothing remarkable, GI wise. However, her x-rays do show that she has the worst spinal arthritis the vet has ever seen (she dragged the ...

Desi & Lola get biked first thing so they're tired when I go for my bike ride. I go 15-20mi a day, and the farthest I've taken the girls is about 2 miles at a stretch. roflmao

Two options: I use a baby (or XS, whatever) prong collar for Desi, and have it fitted so that it's snug right behind the jaw. You will probably have to buy a prong collar and 1 or 2 pkg of extra links, all available at any of the big chain stores. Or you can go for the tab choke collars that fit exa...

Well, this is the start of Lola's 3rd week on Prozac, so it should just about be kicking in, but I can't see any difference. She doesn't have any real problems when I leave for/return from work because then EVERYONE gets left behind. It's when she has to stay behind while I take another dog out that...

BUD needs a new buddy!

To cut out all the family drama, a friend of mine stepped in to prevent her son's pit bull from going to the SPCA because her son was facing eviction because of the dog. Bud is white/brindle, about 7 months old, neutered, current on vaccines, housetrained, crate trained, leash trained. He is great w...

I tried. I really tried. But they still like her. I went over anxiety in general, separation anxiety, owning a pit bull mix. That it has taken Desi 2+ years to be the somewhat well-adjusted dog she is today. That Lola has to have consistency and patience. That if the other housemates can't follow he...
