Re: My shelter is closing... (Long!)

Thank you. Our return rate is very low and most of the time it is people problems, not the animals themselves.

Re: My shelter is closing... (Long!)

While we don't do home checks, and from my understanding, most shelters don't, they do have to be approved to adopt. They have to fill out an adoption application and then have an interview. It's not like we're going to give our animals to the first person with money. We care more for our animals th...

Re: Shelters: ALTER YOUR DOGS before adopting!

This is why I love the shelter I volunteer and work at. They will not adopt out a dog that is not fixed, microchipped and up to date on everything. They charge around $135 for a dog, and that isn't paying for the dog it's paying for everything done to the dog before they go home. They also give a f...

Re: My shelter is closing... (Long!)

Today was pick-your-own-adoption-fee for cats day. It was a huge success! There were 11 cat adoptions today! Whooo hoooo!! There were also four dogs adoptions!! The shelter is now only open two days a week to the public, Tues and Sat. Things are going well and there are several big fundraisers in th...

Re: My shelter is closing... (Long!)

I honestly don't know much because I'm not in charge of anything. The director is involved in a lot and I know she's tried many things. When the previous treasurer left, we literally had nothing in the bank. They reopened the shetler with only about three months worth of funds and for the two years ...

Re: My shelter is closing... (Long!)

Thanks guys. Gordie is a fantastic dog! He had a Great Pyrenees friend called Big Mac who got adopted at the beginning of this month. After Mac left, Gordie kind of went down hill. He started puking blood and losing lots of hair!! They were best friends and he was really stressing out. Gordie has ne...

Re: My shelter is closing... (Long!)

I totally agree with you about certain animals are better off being put down. I just don't know if Hazel would be one of those cases. She's a very happy dog. Her just doesn't have manners and knows next to nothing. There's a lot of work to be done at the shelter and just not enough people to give th...

My shelter is closing... (Long!)

I’m really stressing right now. Just got the news today that the shelter is on the brink of closing. Yes, we’ve had this discussion before and the shelter did close temporarily last year for three months. The talk this time if about it being for good. The director said she hopes that all of us will ...

Re: Pretty blue brindle girl - IN

Alice has a hold on her. She's getting spayed tomorrow and going home Saturday, hopefully. I'm not to hip on the guys that got her but they seem decent. Said they took their old dog for 16 mile walks all the time. We'll see...

Re: Does your rescue/shelter offer sales?

Yes, all the time! For any animal 7 years or older you get 25% off. If you adopt more than one animal you get 25% off total fees. If you are a senior, you get 25% off. We also have holiday specials.. like during Valentines day we had 14% off adoptions. Then there are the animals who have been at the...

Re: so this morning...

That is pretty scary. I'm glad the dog was finally neutered and sent home. While we've had dogs stolen my shelter before, it's always been at night and they were never forcefully taken from anyone. We've had several people who readopted their dogs because boarding fees were outrageous. Not specifica...

Re: Adoption Events

The shelter I work at is very small and located in a very small, rural town. We get a fair amount of people come by but usually not many actually adopt a dog. We've had the most success going out of county, to the bigger cities. We go to several different pet stores and even festivals. We've had a t...

Re: Compassion Fatigue

I dunno if it is a Common thing with every rescue.. or several.. But, the debate and finger pointing sucks. I thought every rescue was in it to help the dogs. Why would you take behind one another.. bash one rescue because of maybe one mistake.. or whatever. I Wish every rescue could just come toge...
