Just wanted to add that no matter how busy my day is, no matter how late I sleep and no matter how early I have to wake up, my dog gets at least 2 hours of me and her time, ALONE. APBT's are people dogs. Dog's (domesticated ones) are MEANT to be around people. They want to be around people all the t...

First of all, I would like to say thank you for caring. Your mothers bf is irresponsible and the dog is NOT in good hands. Besides what you are doing, I don't know what to tell you. If you are learning on PBF and forwarding the information to him, then that's good. But if he is not taking any of thi...

Don't say "no." IMO this is the worst word any person can use to tell a dog that you do not agree with their behavior. It is very widely used. Use something like, "ack", "uh-uh" or anything thats not a common word. I don't think that slapping his butt will help as it co...

Long nails!

My dog has pretty long nails. When I cut them, they are still VERY long. I am 100% sure that I can not cut 1 more millimeter from them or else I will clip the vain or whatever it is. I have seen many dogs (APBT's too) with cut nails which were VERY short. My trainer told that usually when the nails ...

She's new and exciting and you're there every day. Same-o, same-o. The sooner you start crating, the better  Once you start crating and controlling his resources, he'll start realizing YOU are the one he better get excited about. I see I see. What do you mean by controlling his resources?...

Thanks guys for the responses. Jazzy, What I meant is this; every dog has it's way of accepting obedience and that is what the trainer should be on the look out for. Almost no dog's work well with any type of negative training, they tend to shutdown and loose trust of the trainer and eventually the ...

With an adult, its much harder for them to catch Parvo. My dog had the same symptoms as the ones you are describing and it turned out to be a bacterial infection. Antibiotics was the solution. I would definitely take her in to rule out anything serious.

http://www.pitbullforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=81654 Read this! One more thing I forgot to mention. I hope you started with crate training cause it will make both of your lives easier. Every once in a while, put him in the crate so that he can "sink in" what he got introduced to in the house....

You said you "just picked up." The dog is confused, scared, doesnt know where in the world he is right now and wants time to figure things out. Not that I am critisizing you, but I am pretty sure you are all over him, "trying" to make things more clear for him. Don't do that if y...

Calling all French Ring experts!

I am going to have my dog evaluated for the French Ring Sport on Wednesday. Given all that I have read about Schutzhund and French Ring, I guess the main thing here is training with someone who knows what they are doing, or else the dog is ruined. I have found this website, the trainer, John Bayreut...
