It is a play move but it sounds like he's doing it in somewhat of a bullying way if the other dog is not reciprocating. Any move, no matter how submissive, can be done in a dominant manner. If he's wanting to play, the butt bump is a good invite. If he's testing and doing it when the other dog isn't...

Re: Ponderings on poop, diet and genetics

I was talking with someone recently who commented on something I have definitly heard before. She said, "Don't panic so much about the pooping 1x/day; it seems like her body is using more of the nutrients in this food and she is eliminating less". Exactly! This is what should be happening...

Like I said, it's not the material in the collar, it's the fact that he's got anything on his neck 24/7 that causes the problem. Dunno if he gets moisture and food and muck in there (probably) because he's such a pig or what, but anything at all left on the front of this dog's neck long enough will...

Yeah, get a picture of it or try and see what environmental clue are going into it. My dog does this when he chases flies... he'll sit/lie there, head hung in a weird position, ears alert but relaxed, and eyes not focused on anything but very large. What he's waiting for is a fly to come into his pe...

he's worn pretty much everything, and i'm pretty certain it's not the material itself that's the problem. because he's worn leather collarmania with soft pigskin suede lining to organic all-natural hemp to stillwater's seatbelt collar (so far, that is the collar he tolerates best). Pigskin suede ha...

back to the topic at hand... Sometimes spanking a dog will actually get it amped up. If you're coming at it with anger that's one thing and it will fear you and the raised hand, but if you're spanking the dog without the emotion you will actually cause the adrenaline to rise. Trust me, I've see lots...

Yes, talk to the vet as that is not your only choice in treatment. Though, personally, I had great success with a combination of diet change (to Raw), injectable ivermectin, and sulfur shampoo washes. This was an extreme case, though, where the foster was, literally, bald from head to tail and cover...

What kind of collar does he normally wear? Synthetic materials and dyes from cheap leathers can irritate and you will never get over the problem. Also have known dogs who are allergic to the metals from collars (but that was a temporary weird autoimmune thing following an over-vaccination incident)....

no, feed her *nothing* for 24 hours. Let her system completely clear. If she's not feeling well then adding more stuff on top or masking it with meds will not fix it. Dogs are not known to self regulate well so they'll eat even if they shouldn't ;) so don't give her anything solid. You can give low ...

Also keep in mind general raw feeding practices dictate feeding 1-2% of body weight per day so, basically, a 1lb bag is a whole day's worth of food for a 50lb dog. If you want to feed up to that per day, cut back on regular food accordingly. It's all the fat that makes the coat shine and makes them ...

I give my dog the apple core every time I eat an apple, unless I eat it myself. And I know about the cyanide in the seeds. So many other things int his world can kill you I figure this is pretty low on the list of things to stress about. I'm actually surprised so many things re toxic to dogs and not...

Re-reading it, I see where the insinuation is. But, I never said all. Making a flat statement like that would be erroneous, not to mention hypocritical since the first part is about my deceased female. I was simply trying to giving a typical explanation. My bad for not relaying or wording it better...

Or maybe... they're wondering why that human of thiers is staring at them..................... When they refuse to poop in front of you they are probably afraid of being reprimanded. Some dogs who were reprimanded too much during the house-breaking period can be that way. Verbal will do it as much ...

My friend fed my dog a mango pit a few months ago. And then my dog ate another out of the trash moments later because he learned it was tasty.

After I chewed out my friend I watched and waited. Nothing. It was fine. And he's 47 lbs.
