The glands secrete a NASTY fluid...they can get blocked and need intervention to unblock/"express" them. She may need to go to the vet to have the anal gland expressed. If you are so inclined and strong of stomach, a vet can teach you how to do it yourself (if, indeed, that's the problem)....

Ugh, sorry. I've dealt with a dog who suffered through this and, after it burst, it did heal up fairly quickly... I think we continued with the compresses to keep it clean. There's nothing like a big, gaping, ugly ass hole next your dog's regular one, yum! And did you ever think you'd get so intima...

My dogs' food (Healthwise, by Natura, one of the cheapest foods I'd ever recommend) has gone up about $6 per bag. For the cost of food, it's probably the same percentage increase as TW (which I always held to be overpriced, personally).

Really, I don't see any reason to add anything new to the diet. As Mskiwi said, just cut the food, and only cut it a little bit at a time. Weight loss/conditioning is a slow process. Try to do a little more exercise with him on a daily basis (don't wear him out so much that it's never any fun for hi...

I know one of my two has MUCH longer quicks than the others...and I work to get them shortened. I'd love to try a dremel...I've heard that dremeling can help shorten the quicks. I do see a minute shortening of the quicks if I file her nails often and "aggressively," meaning I get them just...

http://www.healthwisepetfood.com/products/default.asp?id=543 I have an allergy-prone dog. We do the same thing...stay away from "known" problems (RICE!) and stay away from "suspected" problems (all ingredients returned on the ELISA blood allergy testing). We feed Healthwise Lamb ...

Not sure where the store employees' attitudes are coming from? When I got my first dog, and she started vomiting on Nutro (probably not due to the Nutro, in all honesty...undiagnosed food allergies - was already drastically underweight), they gave me a refund of 100% of the purchase price for an ope...

I feed Healthwise lamb/oatmeal almost exclusively to the dogs and have since about March of 2007. (Once in a great while I run a bag of NB duck/potato through to switch it up, but not often.) They do wonderfully on it. Two relatively high-energy, 60 pounds dogs, and they get a total of two cups each...

It seemed to me that my 30 lb bag of Healthwise (a Natura brand) went up, too, but my life's been so crazy I actually couldn't remember what I paid before. Betting that it just costs more to get the darn bag to me now, so the price did, indeed, go up.

Oh how awful!!! Some dogs can be very difficult at the vet's office. They're often not feeling well, and it's a strange place with what have to be terrible smells. I also believe it's easy to overreact as a loving pet owner to seeing your baby forcibly restrained. HOWEVER, having said that, my vet h...

There may of course be more going on, so the vet sounds like a very good idea. I just wanted to add that even when feeding twice a day, some dogs will tend to vomit yellow bile from going too long without food. I have a dog who used to vomit a little bit of yellow bile overnight or in the morning. I...

can you get the Natural Balance duck and potato at regular pet stores? PetSmart carries the Natural Balance line. As Misskiwi mentioned, one VERY nice thing about NB is that they make a corresponding treat line. NB duck/potato treats are the ONLY treats my dogs get, because of Abbie Lou's allergies...

I was just talking about whether people consider it a high-quality food or not. I've seen it "knocked" a lot. They were one of the few "super-premium" brands that experienced recalls back in that terrible pet food mess. I've fed it before with good results, and their duck/potato ...
