when jesse was younger (9 months old) she was on the couch, which at that stage was a huge NO... i told her 3 times as well, off the couch.. she just looked at me and basically gave me the finger... so i went up to her, grabbed her collar and her butt, and yanked her off the couch. my reward for th...

It's a matter of convincing him to do the behavior when asked, or rather when it is needed and not just during training. Dogs do not generalize. It sounds like he does not understand that when you tell him to sit at home, it means the same as when you tell him to sit in class. Have you brought your...

I know I have more problems than my dog. I am a "hot headed" person. I have a temper, so having Jack has been a learning experience for me and he has taught, or rather still IS teaching me patience. I can say now, that I'm not pissed anymore, that it was my fault and not Jack's but at the...

First, I don't know why I grabbed the scruff of his neck, it's the first time that I've done it since he was a puppy, usually I just use his collar to pull him to his crate but he was running around and hiding from me. He seems to know that if he is told to do something 3 times and doesn't he gets ...

OOps. I forgot to add (b/c I'm so used to dealing with Pit Bulls) that you also have to consider what your dog is mixed with. Herding dogs, for example, do nip a lot. That's just part of their breeding and how they do their jobs. It finally dawned on me the other day that it could be his shepherd b...

Did he charge, then run away? Was it a gnawing bite or a bite-hold? You have to be aware that if you're going to deal with dogs, you are going to get bitten. They are still animals and they don't reason the way humans do. I know, I just forgot. You know we all say "they're still animals" ...

Let me address some of the questions and comments. I have had Jack since he was a puppy, but I did get him from a rescue because I wanted to "do the right thing" and there were no responsible breeders in my area. I wanted to save a dog instead of buying one. I LOVE MY DOG, but sometimes I ...

He's really not even a people dog. I mean he likes to lick faces on occasion and he likes to play but he'd rather sleep on "his" end of the couch than next to you. What is he doing up on the couch? and why is it "His"? You are allowing him to "Own" something that shoul...

I just feel like nothing is ever enough. Never enough training, never enough exercise, never enough discipline. I swear he has TWICE as much energy as my friend's pit bull who is only a couple months older than him. He's really not even a people dog. I mean he likes to lick faces on occasion and he ...

And since we can't edit *more eye rolling* let me clarify that Jack HAS had training and DOES get out for walks and play dates. I was just saying...there are dogs that we would expect to be maladjusted who never bite people.

He F***ing Bit Me!

I told him "on your bed 3 times" and he ignored me so I half picked him up by the scruff of the neck and dragged him over to his crate for a "time out". And he BIT ME. He didn't get a hold on me or anything but he got me with his front teeth and gave me a little blood blister on ...
