I see a couple here free feed. Just a question, how do you monitor food intake? When we just had Kira, we free fed. The way I kept track was this: Inthe am, I would dump whatever was leftover in the bowl into the measuring scoop. I would add fresh food to that to equal half of her "daily ratio...

I like this thread..esp if everyone puts how much of what kind of food. It is very interesting to see the differences in portions not only between different foods, but individual dogs as well. Kira is about 40 lbs, 11 mos old, and gets 3 cups Royal Canin IVD Venison and Potato kibble. This is split ...

Not only are avocados a questionable food source, you don't get a meat product until 4 items in, after rice, oatmeal and rice bran..but thats just my opinion.

The Royal Canin I feed (by necessity and NOT choice) comes strictly from a vet..I am not entirely sure the regular stuff is quite as good.. I really like the Natural Balance stuff, I am just having a hard time finding the new reformulated Venison Kibble. Right now we have the greyhound on the Fish ...

I will back up Annika on this one... If your dog was doing great on the other food, why feel bad about keeping them on it? Every dog is different, and now that I think about it, Kira's allergies didn't show up until I put her on Nature's Variety, which I have been feeding our new greyhound, coincide...

Kira gets a benadryl a day, and probably will for the rest of her life. We will go in for the actual testing in a few months, but we're pretty sure she is allergic to the cats, as well as certain grasses. And since she becomes almost completely incontinent on the pred, we save it for only the WORST ...

The way we were told to do a food trial was six weeks reaction-free on the prescription food...then introduce ONE new thing at a time..for example, a small amout of boiled rice added to food, or if you are strictly feeding kibble, a small amount of the new kibble. Give a small amount at first, gradu...
