Let me first start by saying I am in no way an expert and there are many other more experienced trainers that will jump in. But your thread got pushed to the second page. There is tons of info on this so you should definately do some searches to find out more... But the one thing that stood out in y...

AddyBaby, was your car far away? The car was a hike away. I wasn't alone there was just no one there to help. A friend was there but she was holding off her dogs to keep them from joining. There was also several other people at the beach - they were just starring. If you are by yourself, with two d...

So I had a very frightening experience recently and I've been running it over and over in my head and I can't think of a better way I could have handled it. I would like some advice please. We had gone swimming (on leash) and were laying in a field afterwards. There was a dog on either side of me wh...

Teddy - Angus is still a spaz when people come over to our house. Tonight my husband's friend came over and he literally hyperventalated in my arms. Does yours act more reactive at home? Did you get him as a pup or as an adult? Kayce - I hadn't ever heard you talk about zooming in - only the 1, 3, 5...

Using crowds to calm??

I feel like I have to give you lots of background so this makes sense. Angus is an extremely hyper dog that needs lots of attention. We have been working really hard using perception modification and SATS to get him to be able to be out in society. Sometimes I think we have made huge strides and oth...

Ok update. Sorry for the long repose, but works been h-e double hockey stick lately. The neighbor actually came over to me and apologized for what he had said. Apparently he went to the Humane Society ( to get another cat ...) and was raving about his neighbor's killer pit bulls when the HS lady ri...

To me, the dogs always "get it" even if we don't. We just don't always know what they are getting. Good point. And as mrpps said most people do approach training with a bias. Most people approach everything with a bias, consciously or otherwise. I never had any doubt my dogs "got&quo...

Re: Why Diifferent Training Methods Work

So what does all this tell us? The dogs that we write about on this forum are far more versatile than we, their owners are, in what they respond to. While we argue over what works and what doesn't, what is mean and what isn't, what is stupid and what is smart,........our dogs just respond to whatev...

Deb,

None of the links are working. Can you repost them? Did the talking points come from Bob Kane of VHDOA?

As far as your other questions, this should be enough, unless you want to nitpick at it. http://www.jamesoheare.com/ Other development courses that are not mentioned on the website are though the Canyon College and Breyer State University. He is currently getting a degree with the Athabasca Universi...

Hi, I just wanted to share a little success with you all. Addy has become increasingly dog aggressive over the past year. We have been working on conditioned relaxation and teaching her/telling her where she is looking - left, right, up, down, backwards, also look at me and look away. So it had been...

From that article it doesn't seem he has changed his mind at all. Sounds like he really believes that even if not breed specific the only people who will be affected are pit bull owners. Need to watch also that if someone comes on the owner's property and the dog bites them it is not a felony charge...
