Re: Procter & Gamble purchases Natura (EVO)

i'm really upset. my very very old ferrets eat evo, and ferrets are almost impossible to switch to a different food. i'm going to stock up and hope i don't run out before they leave me (how awful does that sound?!) the kitties are eating evo, too, but they are young and won't be difficult to switch ...

Re: Pits and New Babies

i made sure to include river in EVERYTHING baby related. she was never shut out. she helped us paint and set up the baby's room. every new gadget or contraption we brought home, she was encouraged to sniff and investigate. i also got a doll. yes, i know dogs are smart enough to know the difference b...

poor river's eyes

friday evening, i noticed river's eyes were looking squinty. her eyelids looked a bit poofy, and her third eyelid was up. they weren't runny, and she wasn't scratching or rubbing at them, so i decided to keep an eye on it till morning (since the vet was already closed, anyway). she was a little cran...

Re: Acepromazine experiences

ace is very dangerous, often deadly, to boxers. since river is potentially a boxer mix (which is what i adopted her as, i don't see it, though), i make sure ever vet who sees her knows not to use ace. same for watson (the boxer). i've talked to my regular vet about it, i've written notes for both of...

Re: Traveling with my girl

Unrelated to her comfort in the car, but it might add to your own - check your route carefully for BSL, so that you know if you get stopped for any reason, the police wouldn't be "justified" in seizing her. *nods emphatically* we recently drove from alaska to oklahoma, through canada. i c...

Re: Dogy clothes in the winter?

a pit's coat is very short and doesn't offer a whole lot of protections. one way to look at it- if you're uncomfortable out without a jacket, your pit probably is, too. i'm sure (s)he will be fine out for short periods of time, but if your dog is out for longer period, especially if (s)he isn't use ...

Re: what a way to start the day...

river's home! the barium made it through to her colon, where it showed a foreign body. since it was already in her colon, the vet felt confident that river would be able to pass it on her own, without surgery. they kept her yesterday, to load her up on fluids, and to make sure she was eating again w...

Re: what a way to start the day...

she's still at the vet. nothing showed on the xray, so they wanted to do a barium scan. about an hour in, right after the barium left her stomach, she puked it all back up. they are going to try again. the vet won't operate without knowing exactly where the blockage is. makes sense, but in the mean ...

Re: what a way to start the day...

she REALLY doesn't feel well! i tried inviting her up on the couch with me, and she just sat on the floor with her head in my lap, looking at me with those sad, sad eyes, and shivering. her appointment isn't until 11, but i am thinking i might go sit in their waiting room in hopes they can get us in...

what a way to start the day...

river was kicked out of the bed about 1am, when ariana woke up and joined me in bed. to that point, everything was fine. i woke up this morning to giant piles of dog hork EVERYWHERE. i put her (and the other two) out while i cleaned, and when i went to let them back in, river was straining to poop, ...

Re: Neutered or Natural?

we will soon be bringing home a male boxer puppy from an awesome breeder. we had to sign a contract saying we would get him neutered at the appropriate age, but even if we hadn't, he would still get snipped as soon as he was old enough. not only is it better for their health, but for their peace of ...
