my girl has never destroyed anything that wasn't hers, either. i think it's part the dog, part the owner, and part...well...luck!

(and btw, it's been too long since we've had pictures!)

yea, i'd be afraid to have the dogs get in the way at an important moment if i was planning a home birth. or, ya know, try to be a little too involved... but if they are kenneled or locked in another room or something, i'd worry that the noise/smells/activity would scare/traumatize them. i think, be...

you can get bag balm in the pet section at walmart. works great on dogs and people! don't leave it in reach, though... for some reason dogs think it's particularly tasty, and trust me, there is nothing worse than cleaning up after THAT mess!

oh, yea, and once the baby is born, david will bring home blankets and such that smell like baby so river can get use to that, too.

first off, congratulations! we're expecting our first at the end of march. we've tried to include river in as much baby related preparation as possible. we let her sniff and investigate everything, so she gets use to having it around. she "helps" us put together baby gear (there's a thread...

yup, no toys. whenever i take river over to her friend zoey's house to play, i walk around a pick up all the toys before i let river off her leash. zoey's mom thinks i'm being mean, but i'm really being smart. why leave things laying around that even might, maybe, possibly, start a fight?!

i think it depends a lot on where you are located, and what your dog is accustomed to. here in anchorage, river doesn't even seem to notice the cold until it's below zero, and 40 for us is a nice, warm day. but for a dog use to a warmer climate, 40 could be positively frigid!

try growing him his own herb garden. for a lot of animals (i've used it for dogs, cats, rats, rabbits), having their very own edible plants makes them less likely to mess with the ones that are yours. of course, you also have to do some training. whenever you see him going for an off-limits plant, c...

when river was a puppy, she was kept leashed with myself or my husband at all points in time. if she started misbehaving, she got a short tug on the leash, and an "ahahahah" to distract her. now, she hardly ever misbehaves, but when she does, "ahahahah" is all it takes to let her...
