Re: When to say When

:goodpost: ... it sounds like you really need to evaluate how adoptable this dog is - not just is he a nice dog, but is there a home out there that can responsibly contain him? It's one thing to ask that he go to a home with no cats, but to ask that this home also be in a neighborhood without other...

Re: When to say When

   This is the worst situation to be in. My heart breaks for you. Amy, you are tirelessly devoted to helping dogs, I know you have/will make every effort to help Gunny. I hope something opens up for him. At the same time I support whatever decision you have to make. I think a lot of p...

Re: Temperament Testing

I use the SAFER test at the shelter(work).
On my own, I use a modified SAFER test to help determine suitability to pull. Like Amy; a large part of the evaluation occurs in the foster home and is on a ongoing basis.

Re: As much as I hate it...I think it's time.

I wasn't trying to be hard on you. sorry if it came off as such. I just have a hard time since I have been doing this for all my adult life, and I have seen so many dogs like Boss who end up f-d b/c people thought they should rehome/adopt them. But then the biting issue happened. I went back and for...

Re: Impossible to place dogs.

Chris, I know this is short notice, but I have to meet some idiots in Pinon @ the truck stop so they can return a shih tzu (sp) tomorrow at 1. Would you have an hour or two to take photos of Mischief?

Re: Impossible to place dogs.

If the person controlling the website is being that difficult, why not just request a transfer and have them move him to another foster home? You don't know Marilyn! She has a really good heart, but she is extremely difficult to work with. Anyways, if I was Chris, I wouldn't want to send Mischief o...

Re: As much as I hate it...I think it's time.

Have you considered contacting a rescue and having them courtesy list him for you? He is good with Harlow, but is never left with her unsupervised. I don't know how he would be with male dogs, or other dogs for that matter. Honestly, he is a people-dog. I'm confident he would be best as the only dog...

Re: This may be a silly question

Uh, hell yeah! I use it all the time. I have not noticed any drying or irritation and I have been using it to wash my dogs forever. I use baby shampoo since it is tearless, but have used my shampoo in a pinch. Compare ingredients of the average dog shampoo to the average human shampoo (honestly the ...

Re: Organix Dog Food?

I have fed my dogs Organix in the past. I didn't think it was bad, but it is pretty pricey. You can get better for less $$ IMO.

Re: Impossible to place dogs.

I personally know Mischife. He is an awesome boy. He is one of those Lab/Pit mixes that could almost pass for a lab, but looks pretty pit-esque from the right angle. Also he was totally ripped the last time I saw him (which is great for him, but adds to the Pit Bull look). He is actually a pretty bo...

Re: Catahoula Bulldog

Aww, good luck special boy!

He sure is a looker. We just placed 2 8mo Catahoula/Am Bull pups. They looked like merle Pit Bulls, but they were much more dog. Awesome guys, definitely not for the first time owner.

Re: Hematomas and allergies

Ditto the cone! I had a foster dog with persistent hematomas in both her ears (not allergy related). When the vet drained it did he show you how to continue to push the excess fluid out? We had to continue to monitor and push fluid out even after they were drained. We fought with the stupid hematoma...
