Re: Nobody is helping. (Pika? Or What?)

My last dog, which was a cockapoo - ate alll sorts of horrible things. An entire tube of Desenex. 600 balloons. Pounds upon pounds of chocolate (nothing was safe - not even the top of the fridge, we had to install kiddie locks on all cabinets, and I lived with stoners at the time that never put the ...

Re: Doesn't like grass?

Toby shied away from grass when he got stuck by something in the grass in the soft part of his foot between his pads. We hadn't been watering as much and the grass was rather .... crunchy. It hurt my feet too! But he could have been stung, poked, pricked, bit, by something in grass and now just does...

Re: Nobody is helping. (Pika? Or What?)

Put a bell on her collar. That way you hear her when she gets up. And maybe stage some counter training with you in a space she cannot see and doesn't know you are there - with a metal tin and pennies inside it that you throw (or have rigged so that you can make the noise without being there) when s...

Re: Pet Insurance

I try to do what FBODGRL does. I've known all the pet insurances out there to have refused to cover things and trying to duck coverage. At least a bank account will earn you interest - no one can (or will) tell you *no* you can't use the money you put in every month, and if for whatever reason you l...

Re: Quick, Easy dog cookie recipes please!

I agree with the person that answered the questions above.

However, you *can* also use your oven to dehydrate if you need to.

I'd get one that has a dial for changing the temp as well as the fan speed and that can do meat cuz jerky is yummmmy!

Re: "OFF!" means one thing

Try a sharp Nuh AH (sooo do not even know how to spell it lol). You know that noise you make when you see some kid or animal misbehaving or ABOUT to misbehave or thinking about misbehaving and you want to check them and make that negative ah ah ah noise? With Toby I find that making the noise works ...

Re: Raised feeders vs. bowl on the ground?

Toby has water and food raised as eating from the ground will affect posture, in the long term and we want him to do well in the ring.

Plus he eats and drinks slower when it is higher.

Re: Nobody is helping. (Pika? Or What?)

Maybe try start teaching her to "trade up". Don't start with the stuff that she "finds" - YOU instigate it by planting the object(s). Have high value treats at the ready. This needs to be a highly controlled "lesson" in where you designate some time to set up the lesson...

Re: Happy tail anyone??

LOLOL! Poor girl!

That's interesting, I guess I never thought there would be such a difference, I tried it with Toby (he was sort of my sketch model LOL) and it ah "cleared the runway" - not a lot by any means, but enough that there wasn't going to be any "rubbage" LOL.

Re: Hatred for squirrels?!

DH is starting to hate the squirrels now, so I had to get onto him for poking a stick up the tree later on at a chattering squirrel (probably momma again). Now, I have TWO squirrel haters! LOL! Mine is starting to go after the blue jay that has a hatred for our cat, if he sees that jay and it's sco...

Re: Happy tail anyone??

Um, you position the tail on the outside of the thigh , the bum is not covered. Just ONE thigh is wrapped, with maybe some straps around the belly, but even with straps on the belly it wouldn't stop a girl from peeing. But you don't need belly straps. Here, I drew a sketch of it cuz i thi...

Re: Rough play...and advice?

Yip or yelp a little or go OW rather loudly and then stop the game. Teach him bite and play inhibition that way. Then you can go to saying "easy" or "gentle" when he starts getting rough to warn him the OW is coming and that if it does the playing stops. Pretty soon they learn wh...

Re: Happy tail anyone??

Okay so the splinting to the leg thing is out for me because by the time I've made her settle down enough for me to TOUCH her tail (she thinks me touching her tail is a game...always has...) I'd just have to un-tape it so that she could potty. Ummm ,,, this wouldn't impede her ability to go to the ...
