Re: Tick prevention

MissKiwi - Are the tick collars safe to use if you have cats in the house that often cuddle with the dogs? Are they safe for me to be around as I am pregnant? They sound like the best option but I want to be sure we are all safe. Amitraz is toxic to cats, but should not affect the cats as long as t...

Re: 4 Health Dog Food

We're going through some hard times right now financially, so I've switched the dogs and cats to this (from TOTW) and they are doing pretty well. I know it's not the best, but for our current circumstances I can live with it.

Re: Hello!

We are hoping she will be ambassador for the breed even if she ain't full blooded(is that okay even if she aint a pure pit bull?). Welcome to the forums, she's a lovely pup! Quite a few of the members here have rescue or backyard bred dogs of unknown origins, so there are a lot of mutts and mixes a...

Re: Switching to TOTW

It was all life stages before, but I believe that has changed now that they came out with their puppy formulas. On their website under High Prairie it now says: "AAFCO Statement Taste of the Wild® High Prairie Canine® Formula with Roasted Bison & Roasted Venison is formulated to meet the nu...

Re: Joint supplements homework, please?

My mom's eight year old dog was yelping in pain from sore joints when she first came here to live. Beside taking some much needed weight off of her, I give a glucosamine/msm supplement, fish oil, and vitamin e. I just buy the store brand from my local drug store (Rite Aid, in my case) because the co...

Re: Goat milk kefir

I have used raw goat's milk mixed with KMR to bottle feed kittens. They did very well on it! I have not tried it for the dogs.

Re: Adopted dog - Any ideas on what breed?

She looks like a beautiful pit bull type dog to me! (I'm using that as a general term for the many types of dogs that are considered pit bulls, not a specific breed.) There's no way to know her breed (or mix) for sure without papers from a breeder or registry. Welcome to the forum! Can you tell us a...

Re: Anyone use BullyMax?

I posted this in response to the op's other thread asking about this particular supplement so I just copy/pasted here. I'm way too tired to expand on this today.... No, but checking out the ingredients it just looks like a waste of money. There isn't anything in there that is actually needed, or th...

Re: destroyed yard

Managing the environment as not "hiding" from the problem. In this case a crate or a kennel may not really be helpful. Changing your backyard through landscaping and improving your fence will help with the problem whether you do anything more or not. As I said, changing your backyard will...

In all fairness, the suggestion to crate the dog in the backyard was a bit odd to me, too.

Re: 'control in exciting places' ?

I'd go much slower, to begin with. Is she good and calm in the car? If not, just work on that to start with. Then exiting the car calmly and getting back in, then tiny strolls around the parking lot, approaching the door, etc. I'd also recommend This book, Control Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt - it's...
