Re: Am Veterinary Med Assn ruling against Raw Pet Foods

But dogs shedding salmonella from kibble can make Grandma on chemo ill, children ill, etc. just as easily as raw. What I'm hating here is that this new policy or stance or whatever they want to call it is calling out JUST raw foods as dangerous. If they want to put out a public health warning, fine...

Re: Am Veterinary Med Assn ruling against Raw Pet Foods

Misskiwi, everything in the studies you linked... pretty much proves my point. I'm not addressing nutritional deficiencies- partially because that's not what AVMA is rallying against and partially because I agree that there are LOTS of people feeding nutritionally deficient "raw diets". I'...

Re: Am Veterinary Med Assn ruling against Raw Pet Foods

The debate, if true (I cannot find verification or discussion on the vet boards) is based in science, and it is to protect the vast majority who do NOT understand the risks. There is a lot of evidence that raw feeding is risky and NONE that says raw is better than home cooked. I'm sorry, but this i...

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

A very good update today! Riddle saw the chiropractor yesterday, and I'm so glad we went! Not just her hips were out, pretty much her whole body was out of alignment. I swear the chiro fixed almost every single vertebrae! It doesn't surprise me given all the ortho stuff she's had wrong over the last...

Re: Green Eye Discharge

Small amounts of green or yellow eye gunk can be a simple eye infection. My guys get them occasionally, and I usually just treat with a little terramycin or other antibiotic ointment. If he's had his shots, an eye infection is more likely than distemper. Wouldn't hurt to get a vet check though!

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

Sorry about lack of updates, there hasn't been much to update! Yesterday at her PT session Riddle got cleared for 5 minute walks daily! Yay! The PT said that she is healing really fast and well, which is what I want to hear! We are going to see a doggie chiropractor though, since the PT noticed that...

Re: Strollers for big dogs?

Yeah we have! It's been AWESOME! We used it for a while as what I originally bought it for, a way to get her to the river. It handles rough trails like a pro. I can even get it over fallen logs by myself. Now that she's in recovery from surgery and very restricted, it's been great for get...

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

I hope it doesn't burst! She did have a pretty big seroma last time around, it was actually a nightmare. It kept a portion of her incision open since there was so much fluid leaking out, she couldn't have the staples out for four weeks. :crybaby: Thankfully that didn't happen this time around! I do ...

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

Staples are OUT! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/savage_destiny/Riddle/20120703_205724.jpg It looks GREAT! I'm so happy. :) She was great for the staple removal, of course. The fluid is just a small seroma, which should reabsorb into her body over time. It could take a couple weeks, apparentl...

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

Riddle gets staples out tomorrow! Hooray! I'm slightly concerned, because she still has fluid in the knee, a small pocket. But the wound is closed, so it can't escape. I guess we'll see what the vet says tomorrow! She did get to go on a stroller ride last night. We went to another park, and she LOVE...

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

Whew! Sorry about the lack of updates! Our internet has been wonky and it seems like every time I get a chance for computer time, it goes out. Sigh. Here's her incision today: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/savage_destiny/Riddle/20120629_204514.jpg It's looking a bit red in some spots. It's ...

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

Riddle is back on track! She's had two solid poops today. :) So that's a big relief! Her leg and incision continue to heal: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/savage_destiny/Riddle/20120626_081153.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/savage_destiny/Riddle/20120626_081223.jpg We had our fir...

Re: Riddle's TTA recovery thread

Well, last night/this morning was a bid of a nightmare. We ended up back at the emergency vet a little after midnight. The leg had warmed up fine and was doing just peachy, but around 11 pm she had some diarrhea, with a couple drops of blood. I didn't think too much of it, but at 12 am she had more ...
