Re: how often do you bath your dogs?

The pit bulls get baths every few months or so, depending on how dirty and stinky they get. The Akita gets groomed every couple months when he's blowing coat, and every 3-4 months in between.

Do you hae a macro option on your camera? It looks like a flower, and it should allow you to focus in on close objects better...

Re: Hmm... choices

I'm leaning towards TOTW, more protein for a few extra bucks. Thumbelina eats more than double what Romeo does and you can still see every rib, so I expect I'm going to need a middle of the road food if I'm going to keep them both on the same food. TOTW is the first thing I have found that consiste...

Re: Undescended testicle

Well... I don't think there's a bit of fat on him... And if I roll him onto his back, I can see a lump on one side of his penis that is not on the other side. So I hope that's what it is. I'm just amazed that I always seem to find defective strays. I thought with a little Shih-creature (I think he m...

Re: Undescended testicle

Well, that's upsetting. I'm not arguing that it's not worth the vet's time, but how do I always find more expensive than average strays? I guess I'm just going to make the adopter, when I find one, pay for the neuter as the adoption fee.

Re: Looking for a puppy...Michigan

I don't have experience with Forever Friends... I think they're a fairly recent group (in the past 2 years), but I am thankful to any and all rescues in the area who will take Pit Bulls, because most will not. Our Animal Control is very anti-pit and will not adopt them out, and more local rescues ar...

Undescended testicle

I have another question inspired by the rotten shih-type pup I found... He only has one testicle. I can feel the other one, but it never dropped. I think he's 8-12 months old. So my stupid question is... is it going to cost more to neuter him, since they have to dig out the renegade ball? I've never...

Re: Collapsing Trachea

Yeah, I meant to say that for now, I moved the slip lead under one arm, like I'd do with the grooming loop at work for a dog with a sensitive throat.

I am not buying a harness for him, because I don't intend to keep him lol

Collapsing Trachea

I know toy dogs are prone to collapsing tracheas. As a groomer, I see it now and then in person. This little Shih Tzu type critter I plucked from the road seems to have a pretty sensitive case of it. I don't have any toy sized collars, so I use a slip lead on him. I do not correct the kid with it, b...

Re: Canned Food

I'd feed canned food more often if it weren't for 1. The smell. Even the good stuff reeks. 2. The price. It averages around $2/can here. I thought the Merrick cans smelled pretty decent. Blue Buffalo has a new line of canned food that seems very similar, and smells decent as well. Definitely expens...

Re: Canned Food

... and they're not necessarily specifying a high quality canned food, just canned food. . Canned food has a tendency to contain better ingredients than dry food, purely related to the lack of carbs needed. I would NEVER feed my cats dry fancy feast or friskies... but I have a case of fancy feast c...

Re: Canned Food

Oh, I agree that a high quality canned food would be good. I guess I wasn't trying to say all canned food is bad... I'm more concerned that people are actively telling dog owners that dry food is bad for their dogs and they should only feed canned... and they're not necessarily specifying a high qua...

Canned Food

So it's fairly accepted that cats should have a mostly wet diet, if not entirely wet. Cats are true carnivores and require a higher protein, lower carbohydrate diet than what dry food provides. Also, the moisture factor is big. I'm not posting to debate this issue, as I don't feed my cats entirely w...

Re: Good dog food for low budgets?

I get TOTW at $37 for 30lbs for my girls, and Diamond Naturals at $27 for 40lbs for my Akita. Both are great. I wish I had a Costco a little bit closer, because I think their Kirkland brand would be a little cheaper than the Diamond Naturals (and they're pretty much the same) for both dog and cat (c...

Re: Why do you feed the food you do?

I wanted to amend my previous post, as I cannot edit it. I was rushing out the door as I was typing. When I decided to try TOTW, I originally put both Josie & Bogart on it, because I'd heard so many good things about it, and I wanted to feed the best I could afford. Josie did fabulously on it an...
