Re: 4 month puppy causing trouble ?

Use a leash, don't tug, use food.

She's four months old. That's like a human just learning to walk.

She's a baby.

Re: Keeping a diaper on?

We're looking into that. I haven't found any that would fit over his thighs but wouldn't have wide/loose enough openings that they would slide aside and expose the diaper anyway. But I'm still looking!

Re: Keeping a diaper on?

I have plans to ask the doctor tomorrow night in his check up, but I don't know. When he's not excited, the tail is maybe only two or three inches- definitely not enough to pin to anything else. (when he is excited it's four or five inches - it grows by a good two inches) I don't know if the doc wou...

Re: Keeping a diaper on?

Yep. If it still does it when he's less grotesque I'll video it for you.

I'm already using baby diapers - the whole point is to protect the tail, so having a hole there wouldn't help anyway.

And two layered on top of each other did not work last night.

Re: Keeping a diaper on?

It's really just his tail stub that's open now. The abscesses along the side have healed, but the tail stub is still mostly degloved with no skin at all on 3/4 of it. He's doing his best to pop every stitch left on that doing little butt bumps on everything possible. Two diapers on top of each other...

Re: 2 Dogs and a Baby - advice needed

Crate or at the very least gate her away from the baby, but give her a stuffed kong, bully stick or something else high value that will take her time to get through.

Re: Happy Tail

Yes, June was horrific for me, and July has been so much harder for others. None of it is fair. It's not fair that Oscar got sick, it's not fair that he lived and others didn't... it's just not fair. Awful, awful time.

Keeping a diaper on?

Oscar needs to be in a diaper for probably another three months. He's being really terrific about not chewing or pestering things with his mouth, but it itches and he's rubbing his butt on things to ease that. Which pulls the diaper off, which puts open wound against all kinds of things that feel go...

Re: Happy Tail

We don't even know yet. I'm really hesitant to put him through more, but it's going to depend on healing rate. We're always weighing the benefits of letting him heal naturally vs the speed of surgery. Our vet has been amazing through all of this, and has been very helpful in the "if this was my...

Re: Happy Tail

Surgery #6 went well, and was slightly less involved (still under general, still intubated etc, but the surgery itself involved fewer stitches and incisions) than expected. It was a different anesthesia than we've used in the past, which Rob was comfortable with, but I wish Rob had been home with me...

Re: Happy Tail

He's not feeling good today. I think mostly he's depressed. He's extremely limited on walks and things because he has such a large open wound, and he's been in a cone for a month. He's sad, and I can't make it better.

Re: Happy Tail

Surgery #5 was a minor patch of some popped stitches and required only local anesthetic (and a saintly boyfriend/vet tech to hold, and skillful vet to cut/stitch while he squirmed) Surgery #6 is another general anesthetic for more stretching and pulling skin to cover the still open areas on his tail...

I'm so sorry for your loss, but so grateful that the rest of us had a chance to know her a bit.

Re: Zero Tolerance for Even One Bark?

Oscar would go months without barking before Liberty got here. When she first came home, I could tell if a car door slammed three blocks away. They've each bent slightly towards the middle since then.
