Flirt Pole training

I would not do flirt pole with a dog with a cruciate tear - they are likely to damage the ligament more from the turning action of chasing after a flirt pole. Playing with toys like a flirt pole can actually be a good way manage prey drive as you're giving them a safe outlet with a toy and they get ...

OMG - the shedding!!

I start with buffing Molly with a towel; then a regular metal flea comb to pick up lots of already loose hair; then the zoom groom or a boar bristle hair brush (that I used to use on me) that will stimulate circulation and loosen more fur; then finish with flea comb again since that seems to pick up...

Dog Throwing up

Would still recommend vet visit since this sounds like a chronic thing. A friend of mine free feeds her dogs and throwing up every couple weeks is NOT part of their routine...

Re: Saltwater approved collars?

I've never tried biothane but I do let Molly get in salt water with her leather collar – it is latigo leather though so it's tanned with a lot of natural oils and I condition the leather every so often with oil. Brass hardware holds up better to water but always important to check your hardware ever...

Re: Recall, Kirkland and Taste of the Wild

I used to be able to buy TOTW (before they were bought out by Diamond) for around $40 for the 30lb bag. After they got bought, the prices creeped up and they average @$55 now. I just looked at NutriSource because I had to buy more food for Molly. I've been rotating various non-beef formulas of Orije...

Fleas!

Food grade diatomaceous earth - it's a very fine powder that you rub into their coat. It can also be given as a supplement - just don't breath in too much of the dust as it can cause irritation in the nasal passages. Around the house, dust the diatomaceous earth in corners and around furniture legs,...

Recall, Kirkland and Taste of the Wild

Those who don't live in the states affected by the recall BUT order their food online should check their bags and/or tracking info on their orders to see which state their order was shipped from too.

Re: Joint supplements homework, please?

We've been using Liquid Health for a while now. I was getting various human-grade supplements before in pill-form but that was too much of a bother for the BF to add so this has been an easier option. http://liquidhealthpets.com/k9-level-5000" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; We also us...

Re: FML. Riddle, of course.

Hopefully you can get some metacam and/or tramadol to help with the pain and inflammation. I'm sorry you guys are going through this – we definitely understand the stress and worry around here - both for the dog and for the financial hardship

Re: Help... dogfight

It's only been a couple of days. There's no formula for how many days apart they need - it really depends on both of them and they may both recover in different ways/different time frames (i.e. one might bounce back fine and still be friendly but the other dog may no longer be tolerant – and there's...

Re: healthy skin shiny coat question

Molly got anal gland issues from salmon oil (was giving her the Grizzly Salmon Oil that comes in a pump bottle and has to be refrigerated). So I stopped giving her salmon oil for a while to see what would happen and she was fine. Then, during one of our food switches, her coat got really dry and coa...

Up here, both Orijen and Acana are around the $65-75 depending on the formula.
Steep - yes, but Molly is an only child :))

Re: OFFICIAL ear cropping/tail docking debate thread

ursaminor Thanks for sharing your experiences about ear cropping. I am personally against ear cropping/docking for looks (show standards can and should be changed IMO) and it is refreshing to hear from someone willing to describe their personal, negative experiences with the procedure. It is more o...
