Re: Purdue Vaccine Study

No thanks. One cat has FIV and I will not mess around with his immune system. The others have all had rabies vaccines in the past and I am not at all worried about contracting any diseases from them. I'm more concerned about their health now than what might happen to their bodies after they're dead ...

Re: Breedfreak pet costs calculator

I'm not sure what you don't understand. Mutt isn't a dirty word. It simply means the dog is a mix. Doesn't matter if the heritage is known or not. It also doesn't matter if it's for sport, money, fads, etc. Breeding two purebred dogs creates mutts. Easy peezy. :aha:

Re: Breedfreak pet costs calculator

In my opinion anyone breeding mixed-breed/mutts shouldn't be breeding. There are plenty of mixed breed dogs in the shelter looking for homes. A responsible breeder breeds to better their breed, not to make money, not to create "new breeds", not to create puppies with cute "breed name...

Re: Breedfreak pet costs calculator

No, not all dogs are mutts. Yes, all dog breeds have been created by mixing various other dogs to create the desired outcome. This takes time and generations. Just because you can come up with cutesy names doesn't make it a "breed". It's a mutt. I have a mutt that I love and adore. The ter...

The frozen, whole rabbit I buy from my supplier is $1.50/lb. Skinned and gutted it's around $2.60/lb.

Re: Purdue Vaccine Study

All the vets I've seen at the clinic I go to push yearlies for everything. I do a DHLPP at 1yr then never again, and a rabies vax every 3 yrs, only because it is required by law. My cats get vax at 1 yr and nothing ever again. They are indoor only, btw. This study doesn't present anything new and I ...

Re: Breedfreak pet costs calculator

They are mutts. They don't have generations of dogs that are consistently bred to a set standard.

I have a mutt. Nothing wrong with having a mutt. Not sure why people are so ashamed of that fact and insist they have a "purebred" dog.

So, that's that. No more TOTW after 2 years of using it with great results. Oh well. Trying Felidae grain free fish formula.

Re: Kibble change (Fromm?)

I sent them an email as well, here's the response: Dear Jacki: I'm sorry to hear that your two cats are having skin problems. There have not been any formula changes that would explain this. However, allergies in adult animals usually develop over time with prolonged exposure to a food or something ...

Re: Joint Supplements?

Absolutely you can use them before any issues show up. I use Glyco-Flex for both of my dogs and am very happy with the results. I buy it on Amazon.com, that seems to be the cheapest source. :)

Fish oil is also good for joints (and overall health).

Re: Costs of raw feeding

I feed prey model and it's much cheaper than kibble. The key is to buy in bulk and stock up on sales. :)

Call butchers, price shop. Ethnic markets are another awesome resource.

Glad to hear it! A local supply store carries it and I plan to add it into the cat's rotation.
