Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw
Sorry from the DP. To address some people's concerns about domestication changing their dietary needs, that is false. A dog is still a carnivore through and through. Google the anatomy of a dog's digestive system and you'll see it doesn't differ from that of a wolves.

Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw
I feed my dogs raw (prey model) and my cats still eat kibble with occasional raw. I am of the opinion that a diet of fresh, whole, unprocessed foods are best for all of us, including our dogs. I can't imagine that any animal is really going to thrive on a diet of pellets. Now with that said, I reali...

Re: Collar mania - No leather??
We love our Pacos. Have three now.
They swim in hem, grab each other by their collars, etc. They're meant to really stand up to everyday abuse. Love them.

Re: The Thundershirt
Okay I tried the Ace bandage on Fiona today during the storms. It helped almost immediately. Kind of freaky, actually. lol She stopped shaking right away, sat there on the couch with me for several minutes, then laid down and went to sleep! Maybe it's just a fluke, we've only tried it once, but expe...

Re: The Thundershirt
Please post updates. I have considered these for both of my dogs for different anxiety issues. I've also heard an Ace bandage wrap can work. It sure could! The problem is, if you have a dog barking and carrying on, fidgity or even pancaked under a bed ...can you get that bandage on as quickly as a ...

Re: Costs of raw feeding
I spend about $40-$50/month to feed a 50lb dog and a 15lb dog. Sometimes less.
I bought a huge chest freezer on CL for $100 and stock up on sales. Chicken leg quarters are the staple around here, with all sorts of other goodies mixed in.
Search ethnic markets and call butchers as well!

Re: Vaccines...
For my girls I ask for titers. The only vaccine I allow is rabies and only because it is required by law otherwise I'd ask for a titer on that one too. I personally decline the kennel cough vaccine. They can't do a titer for that one but even though my girls had the vaccine they still got it last y...

The frozen, whole rabbit I buy from my supplier is $1.50/lb. Skinned and gutted it's around $2.60/lb. Waa?? where do you live? can I have? lol If I can find one for $15/kg I'm thrilled I also had a farmer tell me that's too gourmet for dogs. lol I get my rabbits from here: http://larsonrabbitry.com...
