UPDATE

About 10:30 am I was getting ready to go get Lila and bring her home when the phone rang. It was our vet. Apparently at some point Lila started bleeding and she was taken back into surgery earlier this morning. If I understood correctly the doc had to reroute an artery so the bleeding would stop. Th...

Lila still has demodectic mange they saw at 10 mange mites, BUT thats a big improvement from last scraping and almost all of her fur is back. So I get to pick her up in the morning, boy is it quiet her...

Did you find this out with a skin scraping to rule out mange? I am only asking because for months we were treating Lila for allergies. It started out as a tiny spot on her tail and then after months of being on steroids a good portion of her hair fell out. About 3 weeks ago we went to a new vet and ...

Puppy or Adult Food?

I do have a question regarding foods. Before we recently changed vets I was told to feed Lila a chicken and rice formula. So we went with Diamond Naturals chicken and Rice. The old vet thought she had allergies and it was demodex mange. Should Lila be on an Adult food or a puppy food? Is she ok with...

I was debatting on bathing her as well. I actually have neem oil on hand because I use it to make my doggy shampoo bars, do you think I should just use the regualr shampoo bars with neem in or the one with pine tar? I have thought about making a neem oil spray or cream. What do you think? Kelly

Medication Questions.....

My vet is not available until Tuesday so I thought the best place to ask would be here. Lila was diagnosed with Demodetic Mange about 2 weeks ago. She was put on oral ivermectin and cephalexin for 30 days. I also give her 2000 mg of fish oil and vitamins daily. Her fur is starting to grow back and h...

Mine too and it has worked very well. I think some of you are a little harsh. He picked this dog up wandering in the streets a month ago out of the goodness of his heart. I would rather it be in someones hands that cares and may not have a lot of money rather than someone who has lots of money and f...

She's very cute and how wonderful of you to take her in. What I would do before I bought an over the counter is call your vet or any vet for that matter, ask if you can bring in a fecal sample and get a price. Most vets at least where I live will allow you to bring in a fecal sample, test it and the...

I would think taking some poop to the vet, having it tested should be inexpensive. I believe it cost me $16.00 for testing and meds at our local vet.

I am so glad I went to this new vet. Lets see we had a skin scraping for mange, skin cytology, and blood work done. What we found is Lila has demodex mange. We also found that their scale has Lila @ 45#, rather than 35# that my other vets scale said. Lila is no longer on steroids. Dr. Songster said ...

The nearest veterinary dermatologist is 2 hours away, which is the one this vet consults with. We'll give this a shot and see how it goes and if we don't get any further then we'll do the traveling.
