Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

So the spot that had appeared on Isabeau a few days ago seems to be disappearing. Not so sure that it actually was anything to begin with. My other dog did wind up having a UTI, then proceeded to have an allergic reaction to the cephalexin (face swelled up, hives), so back to the vet we went for a c...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Thanks Jazzy. I definitely don't want to put Isabeau through a gazillions surgeries. I do want to get this one aspirated if it doesn't go away, just so I know if it's even a MCT or not. If it is an MCT, I think I'm going to just let the vet know I want to wait a few months before doing another surge...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Yup, thats what I would do, knowing full well the one I leave for 6 months could be the bad one... but doing surgery every 2 weeks just doesn't seem reasonable either. Mast cell tumor is VERY common, right up there with hemangiosarcoma, we pretty much see it weekly it seems like. I don't think ther...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

If the mitotic index is 0, the risk of metastasis is essentially zero as well. If it were my dog, I'd probably watch it like a hawk and take off as many as show up every 6 months. Is your pup on Benadryl? Yes, she is on Benadryl. So you're saying you would hold off on surgery for now, and just remo...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Well, HERE WE GO AGAIN!!! I took Isabeau in to the vet this afternoon for her 2 week recheck. Right before I left the house, I decided to give her a once over just to make sure she doesn't have any new growths that we should have looked at while we're there. About an inch below the incision of the l...

Re: Questions about Spaying through a Shelter

I really think MissKiwi was just trying to help and give her opinion, from a different point of view. I don't believe she was trying to put you down. I understand what each of you are saying. I would be very frustrated if I were in your situation, and rightfully so. I don't think MissKiwi is the pro...

Re: Freaking out

It's so strange to me when I read that vets are referring people to oncologists before attempting to do anything themselves. I've yet to have anyone suggest referring me to an oncologist, and Isabeau has had 2 cancerous tumors removed. When I worked in another vet hospital, the vet there rarely refe...

Re: The heat and being inside?

Is there any way you could get a window air-conditioning unit? That would definitely solve the problem. Luckily, I have central air-conditioning, but if I didn't, I would have to purchase a window unit. I have a French Bulldog who literally wouldn't be able to survive in the summer heat without air-...

Re: Freaking out

I don't mean to thread hijack, but is there such a thing as having a lump that is TOO small to aspirate? Maybelle has a lump on her ear that was diagnosed as a tumor. I didn't post a thread because I didn't want to make it real, I guess. The vet said it was too small to do anything, and just watch ...

Re: Freaking out

I hate that about my vet hospital as well... there are several different vets working there, seems like you get a different one with a different opinion every time you go in! I would definitely get a second opinion as far as the MCT theory goes. I find it amazing that a vet would jump to Mast Cell T...

That's great news! I didn't think it was, but it's always best to check just in case. :)

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

The vet called tonight with the histopathology results. The MCT that was aspirated was a grade 2, clean margins. The third growth to show up turned out to just be a cyst. So that's good news! She's healing up okay, goes in to get her incisions rechecked in a week. Hopefully, no new MCTs pop up for a...

Re: What u think of this food

But it's non-GMO corn – that's actually kind of a big deal :) If you have a dog that does fine with corn meal, I don't really see anything bad about it. I just remember that when I had Molly on a food that contained corn, she pooped a lot ; both in frequency and volume. Nothing is worse than managi...
