Re: New MCT? chewing his backside and a bald cat

When dogs chew that much on their backside, the first thing that comes to my mind is fleas. Not necessarily that he HAS fleas, but that he has been bitten by a flea...and perhaps has an allergy to fleas. I used to see this a lot when I was a groomer and worked in a vet hospital. One of my parent's d...

Re: Riddle's Mast Cell Tumor...

 I know exactly what you're going through. I don't really have much advice, seeing as how MCT is something we've just started dealing with a month ago. My family thought I was being nuts checking Isabeau over every day, but that vigilant checking is what helped me catch 2 new MCTs less than 2 w...

Re: Can a dog twitch after waking from a dream?

Hmm. I have no idea. Maybe MissKiwi can help with this one. Isabeau has dreams almost every night and twitches and whimpers. I usually wake her up, and they end. Last night, she was having one and her feet and legs were twitching and bumping into me. I woke her up (she opened her eyes, raised her he...

Re: bad breath

I don't brush my dog's teeth. They chew nylabones all the time, and that really seems to help. Isabeau is almost 4 and just had her first dental cleaning...she didn't have very much build-up on her teeth, just went ahead and did it since she was already going to be under anesthesia for a tumor remov...

Re: Essiac Tea

I've been reading about all sorts of alternative supplements for dogs with cancer recently. I've heard of Essiac Tea, and thought about trying it. I've also read about a gazillion other options...and right now my head is completely clouded with it all, and I can't seem to pick which one I should go ...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Thanks everyone. :) Isabeau seems to be feeling okay today. She's sleeping next to me as I type. Here is a picture of the tiny growth that I took on sunday (sorry for picture quality, was taken with my cell phone). It was originally a little larger, but not really red. A couple days after getting as...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

The vet removed both growths, with very wide margins. Isabeau has two HUGE incisions on her side, which are swollen. The vet said he made sure to go down very deep, all the way to muscle. It's obvious she bled a ton, because you can see where they tried to clean the blood out of her white coat, it's...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

I'm really irritated. Usually they do surgeries in the morning, then call after they're done to let you know how it went. Well, it's after 2pm, so I got sick of waiting and I just called up there. The lady who answered the phone said Isabeau's surgery had been done, but the vets are all at lunch, an...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Isabeau is at the vet's right now for her surgery. I also found yet another small bump on her over the weekend. This one is kind of on her back/hip area. I'm not sure if it's really anything or not. When I dropped her off, I made it clear to the vet tech that if the vet thinks it needs to come off, ...

Re: Licking

Have you tried giving her benedryl? I took in a client's Shih Tzu when I was a groomer, who had horrible allergies. She would scratch, chew, and lick until she bled, and they never did anything to help her. All I did was change her to a kibble that was for sensitive skin that had salmon and oatmeal ...

Re: :(

 I know how you feel. I keep shaving spots on Isabeau, every time I think I feel anything abnormal. I'm super paranoid right now, but I guess I have reason to be. If it were me, I'd want it removed...and at least you'll be able to relax a little once it's off (if it is just a fatty tumor).

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Thanks everybody. I just finished filing my taxes, and was very disappointed to find that I won't be getting as much of a refund back as I was hoping, and I actually owe the state money. So much for looking forward to having money to cover upcoming vet bills! Luckily, my parents love Isabeau and don...
