Re: OFFICIAL ear cropping/tail docking debate thread

I had an Aussie breeder (who I actually like very much) tell me that dobermans ears need to be cropped because when they are guarding things, they need to go through tight spaces and their ears could get torn. WTF? seriously? There's a group sending faxes to vet clinics defending their practices an...

Re: Pet Insurance

I have Petplan for Otis. Got it when he was 4 months, he's 4 now. $30/month. He's been healthy until two weeks ago, split a toenail ($700) & they've discovered a grade 3 heart murmer. I'm very happy with Petplan. They are responsive and looks like we're going to have some expensive bills, so gla...

Sweet as Pie mini Shih tzu - Nor. Cal.

Her story: lives in Sonoma County, an outside dog. She's a tiny little thing, sweet, 4 yrs old, purebred, lonely, cold at night. no health issues, gets along great with other dogs. AAAaarrggghhh!! My husband has been trying to get the owners to give her up, and they finally did - I found a great hom...

Re: Butch's sensitive tummy....again

Could be several things. My oldest dog Lily had bloody stools & pain, eventually diagnosed with pancreatitis AND irritable bowel. Can't have any wheat. I make her food and as a backup Wellness w/out grain. Sweet potatoes and pumpkin do wonders for diarrhea. I use it in all LIly's food and for th...

Sunburned Nose

I've tried several kinds of sunblock: quick drying, baby, Bullfrog, sports ... aaaarrrggg. He runs when he sees me with sunblock in hand. I apply the block, give him treats slowly to allow it to soak in. When I let him go, he runs to the nearest rug and tries to rub it off. He's not allowed to sunba...

Re: Possible Inflammatory Bowel Disease??

Poor Riley :( My jrt has IBS and pancreatitis. She was very sick with similar symptoms. Chronic vomiting and diarrhea. After many food trials, we've settled on homemade and Wellness grain-free. She's been doing great for several years now (except when she gets into the garbage - she loves bread). Sh...

Re: HGE - a new worry

Yes, I've had lots of experience  Lily was in poor health when we rescued her - constant bloody diarrhea, shaking, skinny. Vet diagnosed irritable bowel. No more wheat, breads, flours, fillers .... Then she came down with pancreatitis. We worked at her diet for over a year and finally came up w...

Re: Rocco is trembling occasionaly...Please Help!

It could be many things. Rocco could be cold - he could have something else going on. I'd see if warming him up helps. My jrt went through this same thing. She shook so badly - mostly in the morning. I took her to the vet, blood work, no diagnosis. I suspected it might be low blood sugar. She soon a...

Only when necessary - maybe twice a year. A damp towel works just fine on their short hair if they need an in-between touch up.
