One-person companies can only grow as big as that person (which is why I've worked my donkey off to make a company that can exist without me). Sickness, personal issues, large orders, and holiday rush can all have an impact.

Re: Left side paralyzed?

This happened to my roommate's dog. It moved subtly and slowly at first but then quickly took almost all the mobility on his left side. He died before they were able to conclude the exact cause but the leading theory was brain tumor. I pray for a better outcome for your boy.

Re: Looking for someone who wants me...

FYI, the dog in the picture is Mr. Jiggs and he's probably got a bit of cattle dog in him. I know him IRL.

Re: Jack at NW workshop

Great job! X tends to barrel through doorways as well so we're very conscious of thresholds. It's better to lose a second or two by having the dog breach the threshold and catch the odor than to barrel through and miss it.

That's a pretty awesome side effect, no matter the root cause, so keep reinforcing it!

Re: Raw chicken = hives??

My gut reaction is that it's environmental if both are suddenly affected, but you can't rule out the food altogether.

In any case, you can give benadryl to stop the hives. They might become itchy and then that could be a vicious cycle, so best to nip it in the bud. Good luck!

Re: proofing with distractions???

^ and also introduce new places veeeeery slowly. The pet store is difficult even for the most advanced dog, so I can see how it would be hard for I-love-life-Ruby. How is she right outside the house? It might be as simple as beginning outside your door and then building until you can walk a block an...

Re: At my wits end!!

I totally feel you. My current foster came as an adult and had the same issue: no qualms about going in the kennel and outside was too exciting for boring old potty time (here's a version of our experience http://littleayse.blogspot.com/2011/05/embarrassing-confession.html ). Sounds like you've gott...

Re: My shelter is closing... (Long!)

Ugh, what an awful situation! There are some good ideas here already. One thing you could do immediately is start a chipin that could be passed around different social media. That might be able to buy you some time while other options are explored. It's hard because you could do a dozen fundraisers ...

Re: We finally did it!

Congratulations! A friend of mine finished that same title today with her Bearded Collie, think she said hers was the first Beardie to do so, I guess it's the weekend for nosework firsts. Did she trial in Seattle? The cheating part is that the sport is so new there's room for all sorts o...

We finally did it!

Apparently third time's the charm as Xdog and I finally earned the NW1 title yesterday at the trial in Los Gatos... woohoo! We didn't wow anyone with our times, but the fact that she set a record for container search at the last trial (5.87 seconds!) satisfied that need so I'm just glad that we pass...
