Re: She tore her acl...

If it's any consolation, the insurance won't cover it if the dog already has acl issues... they're douches like that. Very smart douches. You also have to have coverage for at least a year prior to any knee issue for them to cover it, and then it's only a fraction of what you can probably get surger...

Re: To neuter or not..

Does late neutering equal bigger butt hole? Kind of off topic, but I was just thinking about pit bulls and their butts because my new foster is pretty much allll butt hole because of a severe case of worms (and lots of irritation) lol I haven't done a scientific study, but I've noticed that wheneve...

Re: To neuter or not..

I had Paco neutered at 12 weeks with no averse side effects. He grew into a dog-tolerant dog. Xdog (non pit, 20 lb Xoloizcuintle) was fixed at 6 months because I didn't want to deal with a heat cycle. Originally I was going to let her mature fully and then fix her, but as a smaller dog she was nearl...

Re: Ate leather slip lead

We try and keep the leather scrap out of the dogs' reach the best we can, but they seem to make a game of finding it wherever they can. Over the years I've gotten used to seeing bits come out from either end and have come to the conclusion that while it's not a great hobby for them to partake in, it...

Looks like a staffy bull cross to me ;)

(in the U.S. he'd definitely fall under the pit-bull-type category)

Re: raw feeding - what to expect, what to look for

We're probably going to start confusing Ksmomma because I caution new feeders against wings and backs. Wings - feel that they are way too small for pit bulls. My 14-pound Doxie mix makes quick work of them. Both of my big boys would gulp them whole in a heartbeat. Backs - too much bone IMO. too muc...

Re: I have a ratter

i think i'd be more concerned about rat poison than lepto. if someone in the neighbourhood is poisoning rats, and then the dog eats a rat that's had the poison.... not a good mix. Word. My cat almost died last year from eating a poisoned mouse (at least that's our best theory based on her symptoms ...

Holy crap. I feel like that's all I can say. I can't even imagine what you're going through right now. My dad used to tell me "life is not fair", and at times like this it's hard not to believe him.

You guys are in our thoughts, and I wish you strength during this time.

Re: teeth dying?

Yeah, shallow root due to early struggles is what I'd guess, too. The hairless dog/tooth thing is also attributed to shallow roots of primitive-type dogs (and then the hairless mutation on top of that makes some teeth not even develop). If it's any consolation, Xdog does quite well with no canine te...

Count me in! My current freezer space is much smaller then before but I can fit a few chubs for sure.

Re: Tripe that won't make me vomit

In my adventures with feeding tripe, I have discovered, there is just no way getting around that smell. Yep. My whole life I've been repulsed by menudo (the food, not the band) because it reminded me of my goats' cud. I had such specific and strong memories associated with it that the thought of ea...
