Fortunately there are many you can rescue who have already had this done.

Re: Switching from BARF to Dry diet - suggestions on food

I love Acana, prefer it to Orijen definitely. My guy eats Pacifica, but I like all their formulations and they just came out with a new one, Duck and Bartlett Pear. You can use it for training and I also soak it in water and mix some wet or pumpkin in to stuff kongs with, then freeze. Who is the tra...

Re: Traditional CCL Failure after 4 years?

The implant in a traditional repair is heavy duty fishing line. It breaks, wears down, knots untie after a few years. Its entirely possible the implant is broken and is causing irritation and a repeated repair is not needed, only removal of the offending suture. You won't know until the knee is exa...

Re: Sick puppy with explosive diarrhea!

It does sound like something else is going on, but out of curiosity how much do you feed her? Orijen IS a good food but it is very rich and high in protein (as someone else mentioned) and the amounts on the bag IMO are way too much. My 60lb boy eats Acana Pacifica and he gets MAYBE 2 cups a day at m...

Re: Pros/Cons for spaying 8 yr old?

Agree, 8 yo is not that old, and with a knowledgeable anesthetist and proper protocols she'll be fine. My old girl Dolly was not spayed but she was between 15-17 when I adopted her, she lived another 2.5 years and I am still amazed she never got pyo, she would not have survived the surgery I don't t...

Re: Another broken tooth

Its pretty amazing to me how they can seem to ignore tooth pain. Becky wasn't acting weird at all when her teeth broke..I found the slab fracture by chance and then found the split incisors when checking on the slab repair. The two incisors were literally split in half all the way down into the guml...

Re: Another broken tooth

Ouchie...my GSD is very hard on her teeth, like Sadie, no respect for her teefies. Last year at about this time she broke 3 teeth and had two dental procedures within a few weeks of each other. Could your vet tell if there was any pulp exposed? I was lucky with Becky, she had a slab fracture BUT the...

Re: Good Lord, anything else at this time?

I'm understanding that this isn't just a money problem but I'd also be able chip in a bit.. not much but some..I don't know if there's anything I can do re finding a home for Zoey since I live pretty far away but I'd be willing to try..anyways I know there's no easy answers or decisions here but jus...

Poor kids! Weird, Marlo was really sluggy this morning but I think it was just the time change and the weather. I hope they feel better soon!

Pit Bull Rescue in Calgary, Alberta?

Hi guys, I'm looking for a rescue as a favour for a friend who knows someone who is looking for a dog. She would like to guide him to a reputable rescue which can accommodate a first time owner and provides follow up advice from a positive training standpoint. In or near Calgary, Alberta. Thanks!!

Re: Opinions on dental care?

Becky (my GSD) broke THREE teeth last winter (bad dog). The first was an upper premolar, slab fracture, but I was lucky and there was nothing exposed, and she just got a polymer repair, but they were able to probe the tooth just fine with her awake. Just a couple of weeks later she split two of her ...

Re: Raw For Training Treats?

I do know some raw feeders who feed raw meat as treats..me personally I wouldn't do it, yup raw meat icks me out a bit (I think it's awesome for dogs tho!) If you had raw meat however, you could always bake it into tiny meatballs, I bet dogs would go crazy for that. Other treats I use include a lot ...
