Re: My training plan for my new puppy

If the pups "parents" are mentally stable (don't have any major issues like fear, etc) and the people that have them are able to provide an environment in which the pup (all the pups preferably) will be exposed to many new things positively, waiting to bring her home at 10 weeks of age wou...

Re: Trouble Walking My Dog with two People Present

What you are describing is much more common than you would think. The only true way to "break" this behavior is with patience, training, consistency, and time. There is no one way to fix this issue, and your best bet is to find someone to work with you in person. A good trainer should be a...

Re: My dog has turned into a cow. need help

Any time a dog has a sudden change in behavior, it is best to see the vet to rule out medical issues. If your dog was previously a voracious eater and is suddenly turning her nose up at food, a trip to the vet is in order... asap. Also, a healthy dog will not starve themself. Stop giving in and addi...

Re: Dog poops way too much

I would also consider a fecal culture, or at least ask your vet about it. We have been seeing some symptomatic cases of cryptosporidium and campylobacter at my clinic. This ^ We have too, and most times we were able to find it on an in house fecal smear test (a little different from a regular fecal...

Re: Ear infection article...

I did like the prevention tips and I did like that it addresses ear infections as a secondary problem. I shudder at the thought of an average owner tryingto perform an ear flush at home though. I've done some flushes at work and I know how hard it is to do correctly. And I totally agree with you Mis...

While you are saving for an MRI, seriously consider having him tested for Ataxia. The test is $150 and done through OptiGen.

Re: Foreign Body Removal...#2

You should talk to the vet about installing a zipper in his belly!

But seriously, glad to hear he is doing well and that you took him in at the first sign of a problem. You would be surprised at how many people wait until their pet is so far gone/sick to seek treatment.

Re: "Split Personalities"?

I was going to say pretty much the same thing as Leslie. Your best bet in "fixing" the fear issues is to find a good behaviorist/trainer that truly understands fear and will work with you to change your dog's world view. A good trainer will never use corrections/intimidation/aversives with...

Re: Product ideas needed to make my dog stop licking her wou

Bigger E-collar.
Depending on which leg and the location of the lick granuloma, you could try a different type of e-collar.
A couple of drops of tabasco or hot sauce on the bandage... not on any skin though.

Re: PeePoop out of control

Crate training is so very, very important even if you don't plan on using one in the future. Out of my dogs, only 1 is crated when we are not home now but they have all been crate trained. Here are some reasons why you should at least train a puppy to be comfortable in a crate: If/when your dog has ...

Re: Puppy crate problems! help us!

I know this may sound weird at first, but after a week or so you will most likely notice a pattern... Start a journal. Write down the time that your pup does everything. What time she ate. The time she piddled. What time she poops. What time she starts and stops play. What time you give her treats. ...

Re: PeePoop out of control

Aww... thanks! I just didn't want the tone of the post to be misconstrued. It takes forever to type out a long reply on a phone and I know I can come across as a little condesending. Thank you for not taking me the wrong way.
