Re: OFA results

Personally with results of grade 1 djd in only 1 elbow, I would send in another xray in 6 mths. It's amazing what a slightly off position or slightly fuzzy xray will show/ not show.

Re: Any way to train a dog to like another dog/

Its not going to end with just working with your dog. Both dogs have to be taught to respect eachothers space. They may never like eachother but you may get to the point of tolerance. What you are asking for is not something that can be handled via internet forums. You need to seek the advice of a q...

Re: Trick of the month

Ok, I'm a little late to this game but Vi and I have been working on retrieve. Some background, she has had no experience with a retrieve of any sort ever. She doesn't really play with toys and is only motivated by food. Vi is now 4 years old. What we are doing... I have started her retrieve trainin...

Re: Injuries sustained from weight pulling?

Just wondering, the dog with back issues, why would they make the dog pull if he/she had back issues? Probably the same reason people set out to title 9 month old puppies This. It happens when people care more about the letters surrounding a dogs name than they do for the dog that is attached to th...

Re: Injuries sustained from weight pulling?

I know of 1 dog (a GSD) that tore a cruciate, but said dog weaves side to side down the track (I think the dog actually fell off the track, but I wasn't at the pull it happened at so I don't know for sure). And another (from the same house) injured its back, but had a history of back issues. I will ...

Re: Merrick Pet Care's Before Grain Food

I fed it to all of my dogs and cats for years, and only switched because the pet store where I prefer to spend my money doesn't carry it. One of my former foster dogs did really well on it, he had food allergies and the Buffalo version was one of the only foods he could eat without breaking out in h...

Re: Aggressive Dog towards humans not other dogs

Find a behaviorist, and stay as far away from sit means sit as you can! From what little is posted here I got out of it that the dog is showing signs of extreme fear, not aggression. And the longer you hold onto the "she was abused" excuse the longer she will hold onto the fear. If you sta...

Re: Heads Up UKC weight pullers...

Since I have had some time to cool down about the changes I can post my opinion. I will NOT be doing any UKC pulls with my dogs. How can I justify spending $200+ a weekend for my girl to "walk" down the track once maybe twice? The max weight limits are close to where I start my dog, and ha...

Re: Energy/Performance Supplements

I use DMG for Vi. I buy the horse version as that's like $15 for a 3 month supply and dose it down to dog weight. I noticed a big difference in recovery time after events, and it has all kinds of other good health benefits.

Re: Vet forgot to stitch up neutered dog

Better funding has nothing to do with it, its just standard care that's required. Just because its low coat doesn't mean it should be low quality. Its the staffs job to care for animals and if that isn't the case they shouldn't work in the field. I get peeved when I hear people slamming low cost cli...

Re: Fearful Puppy Behavior (1st time puppy owner)

I would suggest some show friends on your side of the state to help the pup socialize. That way you already know the owners and their dogs. The health risks would be minimal. You are always more than welcome to join Jen, Amanda and I for training if you feel up to the hike. Jen is really good workin...

Re: Dogs in heat bleeding just a week??

Lol thanks Adrianne. Three weeks is still better than four :) Massive false pregnancies sounds scary. Sorry for the dp, More annoying than anything. Also almost as gross as a heat. Vi's nippies drip milk and it dries all over her legs and anywhere she lays down. The worst part, I only get about 4 g...

Re: Dogs in heat bleeding just a week??

My Chihuahua (who wasn't healthy enough for surgery when I got her) only bled for 3days during the last cycle she had. Now Vi started off at 21 days, but it has been steadily less each cycle. She is still over 2 weeks though.

Re: Vet forgot to stitch up neutered dog

Contact the AVMA. WTF! I work at a high volume spay/neuter clinic and if something like this happened (especially the way it was handled) everyone involved would have been fired. Holding down an animal and suturing is just plain inhumane. We use glue and 2 layers of internal sutures, and if a dog op...
