Re: Questions about ACE and other Meds for my Foster

Tramadol and Rimadyl are safe to give together, but they usually work better staggered. I personally used benadryl to sedate Vi after her spay. If you do use ACE, just be aware of the side effects. Some side effects include, lowering inhibitions and potentially change the dog's personality (short te...

Re: HELLO! New to the forum and seeking advice.

Go through the above listed links, and slow down with him. My advice right now would be to have him on a tie out away from the kids (since you want him out with you all) while they are playing until he learns that kids are loud and move quickly, and remove him from the yard if you think he is gettin...

Once you do the rest of the intro and have full access, a few of us here are fairly active in the show community. I may not have been very active in UKC this year (been doing other venues), but the "players" are the same and I still keep up with everyone. You can PM me (or any of the other...

Re: smelly ears. dried up blood?

Its Allergy season!!! Underlying inflammation allows the natural flora to show up. If its severe (it sounds like it is), get to the vet ASAP and get some anti-fungal medications and a topical steroid. A large number of infections that look yeasty will also have bacterial overgrowth and require anti...

Re: Hi, iam a 1st time Pit owner from Ireland

While you are going to have your work cut out for you with 3 boys, it can be done. I have 3 females, 2 of which are pit bulls and 1 is a Chihuahua mix. It isn't a ideal, but it can work, it just comes down to management. There is a ton of great information on this forum, and the members run from new...

Re: Greetings from Michigan

40 pounds is just about right for a female. It is possible she is an AmBully or "shorty bull", the shelters here in MI are notorious dumping grounds for AmBully breeders. Either way she is a cutie! Her face reminds me of my Vi, so I think you chose well lol

If the beef idea is such a bad thing, why has it worked for me? x2 We often recommend rice and ground beef to dogs who are having non-serious diarrhea. We always recommend boiled ground beef or chicken and rice. Never fried. Boiling the beef removes a large amount of the fat that frying would leave.

Re: CAN YOU HELP ME?

I would find a new vet. Blood coming from the genitals of a male dog is never normal. P.s. STDs like Brucella (Brucellosis) are transmittable to humans (fairly easily) and can make a person sterile. A simple blood test is needed to rule it out. An infection of some sort, whether its urinary or other...

Like this?

It's normal, and you may see it get darker with age. Lucy has 1 nail on 3 of her feet that did this as she got older, it's just pigment.

Re: how much canned food to feed?

3-6 is probably right. Keep in mind canned food has a very high water content so they do need to eat quite a bit to get enough nutrition. I would just go with what it says to feed and worry about weight after this is over. 1 week of a bit too much food really won't make a big difference.

Wally!!! SE MI

http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20807875 Wally is not a foster of mine, but I have had the chance to interact with him on multiple occasions. He is a big sweet goofball! I would love to see this guy get a forever home!!! (I'm not sure why they put Bull Terrier, he looks more like an APBT/ABD.)

If E/N works, it works. Although you can do a home cooked version of E/N if you are worried about ingredients. There is a recipe out there, its just really hard to search for it on my phone.

Re: 4Health or Diamond Naturals?

What about Fromm Gold? I know its reasonably priced and a good food from a good company that has never been a part of all the recalls. PetCo sells Merrick, and that's a reasonably priced decent food. And PetCo does that buy so many get one free thing. Purina Pro Plan is actually pretty decent too. M...

Love this one! I keep a couple cans on hand for whenever needed. It's ok for cats too if for some reason a cat would need it.

Re: The importance of blood work

Update: So after exactly 1 week of the original blood work I had a second panel done so we could see how well the holistic approach to Vi's elevated liver enzymes was going. I'm pleased to say the new panel showed all liver enzymes were back in the normal range but 1 and that one is barely over norm...
