crazy4pits, I have done almost every avail style trainer out there over the years. Now we just work on our own "style" I did not find petsmart good for me. Too crowded and in a small area indoors. Dropped out after 1st lesson. Found that private trainers with group classes worked much bett...

I am working on leash training with my boy who is about the same age. It is slow going on some days. He has to look at everything and especially EVERYONE, but thats good because when they are young they need to be exposed to the world. I use LOTS of treats and turn it into a fun game. I found using ...

DA question

My male foster dog has been with me for a few months now. We had no problems at first, he has been fine with all dogs in my house. All of a sudden the other day he just went for my male dog Seamus. Thankfully I was, as always, on alert and in process of crating so nothing too bad happened. Today he ...

Well, things have worked out, for the better I think. One of my fosters, the new one, has gone to another breed experienced stay at home foster parent where he will be getting all the one on one he needs. Me, I will keep the other foster until he gets adopted. Then take a little break fro...

I dont think that when dealing with the "martyr" type of person in a rescue group much gets solved at all. So now the solution per the coordinator is for her to take my current foster dogs. Even though I know she is already overloaded, and per her statement she is at her wits end also. Eve...

We are a small rescue and the only one in our area. They tend to "check in" on me when I first get a new foster, then I'm pretty much on my own. Most of our fosters only want to take in pups, or just the easy dogs. I am one of the few who will take on the older more "problem" dog...

I have been fostering for this group about 10 months now. One of the reasons I joined a group was because, in my thinking, with a group I would get support to get through the tough times. My email response I'm thinking to send, but I have not yet hit the send message button: That wasn’t what I was s...

Thanks! I needed a little sympathy, I had written an email earlier to our rescue group about my concerns and how I was feeling and got this response back: (quote)So does this mean I need to bring the two of them into the shelter and have the two of them put down, cuz that is what *** will do since w...

Handling stress and burn out

Just wondering how you other folks doing foster/rescue work deal with the stressed, overwhelmed and burn out feelings? Due to personal things going on in my life right now, along with multi-fostering and my own dogs I am feeling VERY stressed. Every day seems a challenge to hang on and stay in contr...

For the feet in snow

I got a product called Musher's Secret. It is a non toxic wax product that you apply on their feet, esp. between the toes. It seemed to work good on our walk today, I didn't have to stop once to remove ice balls or anything!

I got it off the internet, not exactly sure where though.........

I will try the relaxation reinforcement stuff, Thanks Julie K. We had a halfway decent evening tonight. I braved the snow and took him to the ball diamond and let him run and run and frolic. Then when we came home and I worked on just quietly hanging out with him. He seemed much better. Maybe he was...

He is about 1-2 and went from owner surrender to HS to our rescue to me to foster. So he has been bounced around a lot the last weeks. He has not had that much freedom so far at my house. I pretty much keep all dogs seperated during our introduction phase, with slow intros done. My own two dogs are ...

Uber hyper foster

Re: my new foster dog. Very hyper, never stops pacing the house. Back and forth thru the house, constantly. Will carry the rope tug toy while pacing. If he does stop and lay down he is hanging on to the toy, chewing on the rope toy. He gets along with the other dogs, and they seem to pretty much ign...
