Re: At my wits end!!

Fransterdoo.. I wish that was an option for us.... We have our 2 chi mixes in the girls bedroom. they are crated when we are at work and are out as soon as the girls get home. They also sleep in bed with the girls. Molly and Scar take turns being crated in my bedroom. Whichever one is in my room is ...

Re: At my wits end!!

Unfortunately in our county tethering is illegal so thats not an option but I will definitely be doing the standing in one spot till he goes. Hillsborough County right? They just had a vote on re-doing the tethering ordinance. It passed but will not go into effect for 2 years and still allows tethe...

Re: At my wits end!!

Thanks BabyReba.. He is actually better when loose in the house.. if you catch him doing it and interrupt him you can run him outside and then he will finish but he gives no cues as to when he has to go.. so these next 4 days with him are going to be fun and I think by Sunday I will need a drink.. b...

Re: At my wits end!!

If I can't get this under control soon I am going to be left with no choice but to return him to the breeder and have them find him another home or find a home myself for him. Unfortunately I dont know much info on the kennel where he was raised or their cleanliness. But considering the way they we...

Re: At my wits end!!

I havent been able to try that.. but dont think he is stressed in the crate. and he will go in the house as well whenever he wants. I have this problem with my current foster, and it is enough to drive a person crazy (seriously, I've had a few meltdowns). It earned him the nickname Pigpen. :po: It'...

Re: At my wits end!!

I am sorry that you feel that crating for that long is unacceptable but with having 4 pit bulls and 1 bully in the house leaving them loose is not an option. You don't have to have them loose. It is quite possible to function a crate and rotate system with multiple dogs without any dog being crated...

Re: At my wits end!!

I totally feel you. My current foster came as an adult and had the same issue: no qualms about going in the kennel and outside was too exciting for boring old potty time (here's a version of our experience http://littleayse.blogspot.com/2011/05/embarrassing-confession.html ). Sounds like you've got...

Re: At my wits end!!

He refuses to poop on our walks and due to his hips we cant walk him to far.. usually about a mile a day. How bad are his hips? Is he limping, having trouble walking? A mile a day is almost nothing... Walking is a low impact exercise so i think you could increase the lenght of your walks. I have a ...

Re: At my wits end!!

One thing I read some time ago - take him out/away before you clean up his crate, don't let him see you do it. I read they can think it is a "present" (lack of a better word) for you when they see you clean up after them. I have no idea if this is true, but it can't hurt to get him out of...

Re: At my wits end!!

Have you done any experimens with not crating him as much to see if his habits are different? For instance, if someone takes a couple of days to treat him like the only dog for a day or two, to see how he behaves, do his habits change? If he doesn't have access to his crate, does he go outside like...

Re: At my wits end!!

This is what works for the other dogs in the house Except that he's not the other dogs in your house. Dogs are all individuals and should be adressed as such. Approaching the situation in a "well joey doesn't do that, why can't you be like him?" (be it human child or dog) is only going to...
