Re: Feeding Raw

How I got started: I, like most people who have fed raw for a while, started with the Ian Billinghurst books. http://www.barfworld.com/html/dr_billinghurst/meet.shtml I started feeding raw because my dog got vaccinosis and started having really horrible skin infections and breakouts that seemed like...

Re: Feeding Raw

Those of you that give a Co Q10 supplement... care to elaborate on that a bit? What is Co Q10? How much do you give? How long have you been giving it and what benefits do you see from giving it? To the whole animal feeders: I tried feeding rabbits for a while, but the dogs would not eat them. They j...

Re: Feeding Raw

I use a 1/4 cup measuring scoop and they get a lightly heaped scoop. Sometimes they get 2 scoops. I used to be really anal about measuring everything but over time I learned to relax and be more free about it as my recipes became more practiced and I saw the results that I wanted could be achieved w...

Feeding Raw

I've been feeding raw for about 12 years on and off. I thought I'd start a thread about how those of us who choose to feed raw go about making meals, how long it takes, how much it costs and the benefits and drawbacks of feeding our dogs this way. While we have fed kibble at times, I have always see...

Re: Question for those who've done hydrotherapy

Jack had a visit with the vet today to discuss the arthritis issues he's been having. Were trying out rimadyl to see if that gives him any relief, as well as some range of motion exercises. As I knew, the vet suggested water therapy as a form of exercise and maintaining muscle mass. Here's my quest...

Meatball looks like an awesome little dog. I'm surprised there is no interest for him. :(

Re: Need help deciding on CCL surgery: what would you do?

Prognosis is very good, especially with only a partial tear if you use a custom orthopedic brace. For me that would be a no brainer. No way I would opt to chop up and reconstruct a knee joint for a partial tear. JMHO. With a brace, no surgery necessary. No doctors playing god. Body can heal itself. ...

Re: what kind?

We feed raw or home prepared diets here or various kibbles. Since I prepare all the meals, dog and human alike, I just make whatever we have in the fridge. Dogs do great on various meats and whatnot. I've been feeding raw on and off for like 15 years so I just buy like 30 lbs of meat every week and ...

Re: Sleeping all the time

She may be fine. It is not very reliable getting opinions on how your pup is acting from a brief internet description. Hyper for most people may be low energy for me, poor house manners may be fine for someone and unthinkable for someone else. Your puppy should be pretty energetic at this age, but p...

Re: Lower Protein Food ??

To add to what Lilangel already said...diets that are high in carbohydrates can actually increase the tryptophan level available for serotonin synthesis (thryptophan, an aminoacid, is a precursor of serotonin). One study to look up could be the one done by DeNapoli, Dodman, Shusterm Rand and Gross ...

Re: OFFICIAL ear cropping/tail docking debate thread

Dracula lives. Since this has changed to a discussion of pits in dog parks... I was just at the park where there is a gorgeous well equipped 5 acre dog run. Lots of space for lots of dogs. Well. wouldn't you know it, Pit Bulls are well loved by us hippy tree huggers around these parts and 2 were in ...
