Well, it's not dysplasia...

Nugget's been showing signs of dysplasia or some other structural issue. While standing, his back legs will sometimes suddenly "roll" out at the hock (making him look bow legged), and when he walks at a relaxed pace, his hind legs roll as if he were knock-knee'd (but at the hocks). So, I g...

Re: I rescued a pitbull today.

Check with acc/humane society for lost dog postings too! My nightmare is my dog getting lost, ends up looking neglected from time on the road and the not getting returned because someone suspects an abusive owner. You never know who is missing their pet...

Re: Feeding Raw

Studies have to be funded. Virtually an impossibility... Vet schools won't do it as their funding comes from Proctor & Gamble (Iams, Eukanuba), Colgate-Palmolive (Science Diet)... This is a MYTH that I would really like to see stop. Those companies do not prevent studies from happening. Unfortu...

Re: Leg leaning, forceful heeling

My foster used to get underfoot in the same way, not only frustrating but dangerous. I taught him that the correct position to be when next to me is slightly behind me (I would hold the leash in my right hand and have it along my back, and use a left hand treat to teach him where to be). I also taug...

Re: Feeding Raw

Don't mock, I am actually asking... My dogs eat horse poop and hoof trimmings. Aside from manure from a recently wormed horse, has anyone heard of negative side effects of eating it? I ask because it really firms up Nuggets poop, and seems like a natural way to get his greens, so to speak.

Nugget ate a half cob three months ago, and a piece just came out last weekend.
Freaky.

Re: Do you use treats to train your dog?

Lately I've been using Pill Pockets, as they are easy to break up into tiny pieces that don't crumble (and leave crumbs in my pockets) since they are almost play-doh like in texture. They stink like canine junk food and the dogs LOVE them.

Re: What do I say to this?

doesn't want to seem uptight There are things in life worth being uptight over, your dog is one of them. Sometimes you have to assert yourself, even against family or bf or friends, to keep your dog safe and happy. My bf wanted to carry my dog into the ocean the other day to teach him to like the w...

Re: Hind leg(s) sore, limping after exercise. Need advice

Before I take him to see a vet, is there a natural supplement/food that I can look at for joint mobility? Should I gently stretch his legs before/after exercise? Glucosamine/chondroitin are good supplements for joints. I warm my horse up by walking her for a while, to loosen her up before asking he...

Re: Snow and my Bf (Suggestions needed)

She's a pretty simple little creature, so we can't get too elaborate with 'places' to wait :p Nugget is also a simple dog, which is why the mat helps so much. Without it (and the treats) his brain would otherwise explode if I asked him to do anything with regards to staying in a single place when f...

Re: Snow and my Bf (Suggestions needed)

I stayed at my moms this week, and my foster Nugget LOVES her. What drives me nuts are his insane cannon ball-esque greetings that he reserves especially for her. To combat them I do the following (all based on knowing when my mom is coming home, and enlisting her participation): -get my dog tired b...
