Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

Well, he's only been on this Lamb and Rice formula for 2 and a half weeks or so. Should I stick it out longer? Or just go ahead and begin the switch?

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

I guess I'll try one of those. I'll do my research and compare all 3 of the limited ingredient choices. I hate having to keep switching him, but he can't just stay sick like this.

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

I also saw that both Blue Buffalo and Wellness have a Basics/Simple line for dogs with allergies... would that be a better option for him?

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

No, I haven't tried a grain-free food. I know someone had mentioned another low grain option earlier in the thread, Natural Balance maybe? We've only tried California Naturals, Taste of the Wild, and now Blue Buffalo. I just don't know what was so good about the Iams. I'm trying to do better by him ...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

That's all I've been giving him. No table scraps, no wet food, nothing. I didn't even want to mess with the idea of wet food mixed in until his stomach settled.

He's been on the Blue Buffalo Lamb and Rice formula kibble. We've got about 1/3rd of the 30 pound bag left too.

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

Well, it's gone back to exactly how it was before when he was on the chicken and rice formula. His bowel movements start normal but end in diarrhea. I'm not sure why this is happening anymore... he can't be allergic to lamb because that's what was in his original food. I'm really at a loss at this p...

Re: eye dialation..?!?!

That used to happen to koda up until he was about a year and a half old. The vet had determined that there had been head trauma before I found him, so he had issues with his eyes dilating randomly, usually it was just one eye at a time. The vet said it would subside after he matured and grew more, b...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

It makes sense really. We used to walk immediately in the morning when he woke up, so he went potty for the first time that day during the walk. Now that we're not getting up as early and we're waiting to walk, he goes potty before we walk. I guess it's a sign we need to walk right when I wake up ev...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

Oh that's funny! I've never noticed that, I just kind of assumed it might be the heat making him dehydrated. But hey, if other people are dealing with it too, I guess he's more normal than I suspected? Lol

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

Just thought I'd update and ask another question :) Koda has been off of the pumpkin for a week now. His bowel movements are normal again, which is a great relief. However, he's still having loose stools on our walks. Normally, he goes outside to potty before we walk, which is a normal bowel movemen...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

Well his fecal came back normal, so I'm happy about that. I'll give him pumpkin with his food for a few more days and then see what happens when it's removed from his diet. Hopefully everything will continue to get better as it has been so far. He's IN LOVE with pumpkin though. Absolutely in love. H...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

I meant to update yesterday, but today is even better. It's seriously like a switch went off. His bowel movements are perfect now... It's the craziest thing I've ever seen! He's been on Lamb and Rice for three days now with 1 tablespoon of pumpkin per day... and it's already back to normal. I'm stil...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

I know... I didn't see your post until I got home. I was all confused in the store too because they were trying to sell me every possible thing they could and I just wanted them to back off! I felt like I didn't have enough time to look at my options. I guess we'll give this a shot and if it's not w...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

Well I bought Blue Buffalo lamb and rice formula to try. The only problem is, there is no canned pumpkin to be found around here. Ive heard multiple grocery stores tell me that there was something wrong with the pumpkin crop last year, so there won't be any until September or October. Any other sugg...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

Right now his stools are fine at the beginning, but are runny about half way through. And he does that thing where he hobbles around the yard to have more runniness come out. It's not terrible, it's been much worse before, but it doesn't seem fun for him. Since Taste of the Wild also has chicken, I ...
