Re: Advice? Or is this normal?

I don't know how quickly aspirin works (when I have a headache, meds seem to take forever!) but she seems a smidge more dog-like this afternoon already. Of course, that may just be due to my perception and hoping that she'll be more dog-like. And yes, if I complain about her being crazy and hyperact...

Re: Advice? Or is this normal?

Thanks for the suggestion, MissKiwi. We did start the aspirin right after we got home from the vet. If she starts acting more lively and we determine that she is in pain, we'll be discussing long-term pain meds and supplements.

Re: Advice? Or is this normal?

I guess I'm a rotten mom, because I never even considered that maybe Amber hurt. :( But once the vet suggested it as a possibility, it made sense. When Amber's excited, she's full speed, all out crazy. When she's at home she just lays around most of the time unless Andre somehow convinces her to pla...

Re: Advice? Or is this normal?

So we went to the vet this morning. The vet gave Amber kisses and hugs. NICE! (I've been searching for a good vet who likes pit bulls since we moved 14 months ago) We discussed some things and she thinks that Amber might have some joint pain. So, we're going to try a couple weeks of buffered aspirin...

Re: RAW feeding couple questions

I have ground beef in my freezer that's from 2007 for the dogs. I know it's been thawed and frozen at least twice. My dogs don't care. As for fish, I bought 60 pounds of tilapia. I throw it towards the lake and hope the local eagles eat it before it starts to stink because my ingrates will. not. eat...

Re: Advice? Or is this normal?

The TOTAL panel is only like $70. It's CHEAP-PPP More often than not, however, you get EXACTLY what you pay for... Can you give me some pointers so I know that I am getting the best test results possible? I don't know anything about testing blood other than they suck the blood out of the victim/pat...

Re: Advice? Or is this normal?

Thanks for the link to Hemopet, Pitbull-Lady. I'm going to print out the sheet of directions and take it with me to see which tests the vet can do in-house and decide then whether to ship it off or let the vet test it. Thanks for the well-wishes everyone. I don't think it's anything serious. I just ...

Re: RAW feeding couple questions

We have an upright and a chest freezer for the dogs. They both have pros and cons. The upright is easier to organize, but harder to pack really full, because when you open the door, stuff falls out. On the other hand, I can cram the chest freezer as full as I want and don't have to worry about a 5 p...

Re: NASTY

Some dogs don't do well on certain foods. I'd try changing the diet. Andre actually ate poop when I switched him to Innova puppy food. When I switched him off of it, he stopped eating poop. I was actually pretty sad about it being that easy, because I wanted to feed him Innova, but thrilled that he ...

Re: Advice? Or is this normal?

Thanks, Nic. I'm planning on having her thyroid tested. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks it may be a problem. One vet I asked about it said, "Why would you have it tested?" And I said, "She's kinda lethargic and seems cold all the time." Her response was "We...

Advice? Or is this normal?

Amber's always been a bit of a couch potato. And I'm aware that some dogs are more active than others. However, yesterday and today, I never made her get out of bed just because I wanted to see how long she'd stay there. We all went to bed at about 9 on Wednesday night. I read for a while in bed and...

Re: TPLO SUCCESS STORIES

Our previous dogue had TPLO done on both his knees. The first when he was about 3 years old and the 2nd at about 6 years old. The second recovery seemed a bit harder on him, but nothing terrible. His knees weren't more painful after the TPLO and while he only lived to be 8 years old, there wasn't an...

Re: curious about this food

I tried Fromm for both of my dogs. Amber, who has never had any stomach reaction to any food, ended up with loose stools and vomiting from the adult. Andre, also ended up with loose stools and vomiting on the large breed puppy. I was shocked because I'd only heard good things about them. I'd recomme...

Re: Raw feeding books/sites

If you're in an area with lots of hunters, you can place an ad on Craigslist asking for unwanted/freezer burned meat. I recently did so, and 3 different hunters responded. They were cleaning out their freezers to make room for the upcoming hunting season. We ended up with over 300 pounds of free mea...

Blue Buffalo recall

Blue Buffalo has been under scrutiny lately due to dogs becoming ill after eating some of their food. As a result, they are now recalling specific lots of their the following Blue Buffalo dog foods: Wilderness Chicken-Dog, Basics Salmon-Dog and Large Breed Adult Dog products. It’s been discovered to...
