Re: Skin Issues-Hives

Scroll down to Oscar the westie on this page - it looks the same to me, though the westies condition looks a little worse: "Oscars owner 'Donna Brocklehurst' was recommended to try the Dermacton cream by Barkin Mad dog rescue in Swindon, Wilts, after her vets were unable to help her." http...

Re: My dogs are fighting...

No This forum freaks me out a bit about the breed, with all the fights, conflict etc But Tasha taught me that it IS possible for pits to love other members of a doggy pack. Just chiming in here. It's not just having multiple pit bulls, it is having multiple dogs. A woman's two Corgi's got into a fi...

Re: My dogs are fighting...

Timing is everything, correcting anything the moment it almost begins ;) After a while they just don't try anymore... personally i think it's part monitoring and stepping in immediately and part simply having compatible dogs. i have a bossypants pit bull queen bee and two submissive boys. the state...

Re: My dogs are fighting...

It all depends on where you choose take your chances, based on knowledge and experience. While personal experience is very important - so are the experiences of others, to give you a more complete picture of possibilites. It's important to take it all into consideration before deciding where to lay...

Re: My dogs are fighting...

It's certainly possible to have multiple pit bulls living together with reasonable peace. I have two pit bulls and Border Collie and they are separated when I'm not home, but other than that, we're just one big happy family. Like all families, there are occasional disagreements and scraps. When the...

Re: My dogs are fighting...

Cesar's dogs are never, ever left alone together. There are always(24/7) multiple people there watching the dogs - constantly. It's a 24 hour job. They are never trusted not to kill each other. Yet on National TV he manages to get two pit bulls into a fight (twice) and the amount of people surround...

Re: My dogs are fighting...

No advice to give just encouragement. Tasha our first pit bull who we lost last march - spent hours alone free in our large outside dog run with our 3 male dogs everyday ( Border collie, Rat terrier and a mini Aussie). They all slept inside together every night in the same room not crated and we nev...

Re: Advice / suggestions growling at strangers on leash

Another thing you could try (even in conjunction with the other things) is Jean Donaldson's Open Bar/Closed Bar technique. Passive training methods Bar Open/Bar Closed (from Jean Donaldson's books) Food and toys are only available when a dog from the target group is within view. These items are ava...

Re: Advice / suggestions growling at strangers on leash

Yes I love clicker training and have been doing it since the 90's (everything she knows - including loose leash walking has been taught via clicker). When your dog sees a man coming, from a distance in which she has not started to change her body language yet, click, feed, and take the pressure off...

Re: Advice / suggestions growling at strangers on leash

How old was she when you got her and began "socializing" her? Not only is she at that prime age where dogs begin to get a little more set in their ways and weary of new, strange things (i.e. adolecent fear stage), she's also at that age where unadressed issues from puppyhood really begin ...

Advice / suggestions growling at strangers on leash

I am little bit puzzled at some of Chi Chi's behavior - she is 8 months now. When we first got her she was very fearful of people, especially men. We took her out and about, socialized her at a slow pace. We also took her to a doggy daycare to get her used to more people & dogs - without *us* be...

Re: Your dogs and the vet, how do they do?

Chi Chi likes our vet - she even rough housed with the vet after having her nose tumor removed & stapled under a local anesthetic.

She likes people who like her - she really knows, if people are wary of her - she is wary of them. (Chi Chi not the vet)
