Re: Philly, PA: Big Headed Mutt - Dog Friendly

Just wanted to update that Champ went to his forever home last night! He's living in New Jersey with his mom, dad, and GSD-mix brother.

Re: PLEASE HELP...MAJOR ISSUES...need help ASAP

Here is a link to find a veterinary behaviorist. Basically they are a vet who is a behavior specialist and has done a bunch of extra training and passed a board exam in behavior. They can rule out other medical issues, prescribe meds, and help you with desensitization and training. They will probabl...

Re: Dog..Itching Bald, raw place on back

You can't give the same flea med BUT the vet should be able to give Capstar (oral med) and/or another type of topical flea med. For example some people give Frontline and Advantage 2 weeks apart from each other. I don't know what your dog got so you would need to ask the vet. Plus your dog can get a...

Re: Questions about shots

Check out local humane societies and shelters; where I live you can get the rabies vaccine plus the 5 way (distemper, hepatitis, parvo, parainfluenza, lepto) for $25 at several shelters. It doesn't replace seeing the vet of course, but at least you know the vaccine has been stored properly and is gi...

I'm glad he's feeling better!
Minor point, and you probably already know this, but baby food can have a ton of onion/garlic powder added which some dogs are very sensitive to... just check the label.

Re: Pancreatitis

I'm so sorry that Tux has been having such a hard time.
When they send him home again, I wonder if they would be willing to have you do Cerenia injections yourself at home... seems like he is too nauseous to get the oral meds right now.

Re: Is this a good quality Dog food.

What I meant was, it might not be great to run out and buy that food right now until this outbreak is under control. Here is a list of the Salmonella contaminated / recalled Kirkland foods: http://www.petmd.com/news/alerts-recalls/nws_kirkland_signature_pet_food_recall#.T69Ju0_dAXw" onclick="window....

Isn't Kirkland recalled right now?

Re: Bad tooth, what do you think?

I wouldn't leave it in. If it's infected or gets infected that can spread to the bone or to other teeth. I think a second opinion is a good idea.

Re: Did we over do it with the exercise? Pittie in pain!

There are lots of dog-safe NSAIDS available through your vet! Plus you can get the vet to check her out for any treatable injuries. Especially in an older dog, the human-NSAIDS can cause serious medical problems so I would stay away from that.
She's very cute :)

Re: Rompum and Yohimbe

Rompum is xylazine which is not used much anymore in dogs and cats. Hopefully MissKiwi will chime in but it tends to have nasty side effects in small animals (dog, cat) from what I understand.
Yohimbine is just the reversal of xylazine to make them wake up when the procedure is done.

Don't let anyone lick it... it will get infected.
If it were me I would go to the vet.

Re: How to stop jumping & transition out of the 2 week shutd

You got good advice re: training already. With fosters / new dogs I have them wear a regular collar and leash in the house and drag it around (obviously not unsupervised so they don't strangle themselves on something). It makes it a lot easier to gently remove the dog from a jumping position or from...
