Re: Hot spot advice

Thank you! He seems to be less itchy now, although he went out for a pee in the rain (I wasn't thinking) and that drove him nuts until he dried off.

Seems the hardest part is going to be keeping the other dogs from trying to clean his wound - we'll have to crate and rotate for a few days I think!

Hot spot advice

Last night I went to do some laundry and go to the washroom. I came out of the laundry room and Dante was sitting in a pile of fur with a huge wound on his neck. My first instinct was that there was a fight (I don't know why I thought this, I was steps away with a door between us and heard nothing) ...

Re: Potty'ing when raining.

Dixie is 10 weeks old, she is doing really really well ringing the bell when she has to go outside she just hates the rain. She is doing better. That was really her first experience with the rain, she seems to be learning that the faster she goes potty the faster she can go inside...maybe next time...

Teaching body awareness?

Miss Mina is pretty much the best dog you could ask for. Smart, well behaved, listens well, walks like a dream, loves life and everything in it. Very well balanced dog. But, she seems to have nooo idea how big she is, or where her body is. She's one of the most agile dogs I've seen when she's runnin...

Re: Pit Bull Rescue in Calgary, Alberta?

Pit bulls for life, for sure. We haven't adopted through them, but I have been in contact with them about fostering in the future and they seem like a great organisation! They have a great foster to adopt program where you can foster a few dogs until you find the right one - might be a great idea fo...

Re: Body language question - crawling when excited

Boss Man does that when he meets new dogs, he crawls on his belly and when they come close he rolls over on his back and pees? I think that peeing means he is afraid? At home he crawls on his belly and barks orders at me! Our male will roll over and pee on himself, and it's definitely out of a bit ...

Re: Body language question - crawling when excited

She's telling the other dog "HAI! I am sooooo happy to meet you! See how I make myself all small and unintimidating? It's because I want you to feel safe and say hi to me back!" Doing it more with smaller dogs tells me she is modifying her behavior/play and making herself seem as uninitim...

Body language question - crawling when excited

My dogs so far are great with other dogs. Dante is a bit weary, but as he's matured he's become more confident and a lot more interested and excited to see other dogs, and has even tried to initiate play with other dogs a few times (outside of our other 2) - which in the beginning was something he h...

Re: Excited Growling?

My female pretty much growls for everything she wants. She lets out low grunty-growls when she's excited and can't contain herself. She growls and then barks when she wants to play, growls before she 'talks' growls and grunts when she wants out. Etc, etc. She's VERY vocal. She even growls when we fi...

Belly rash

Dante keeps licking his belly/around his boy parts (but not his actual parts). Some days it's so bad he gets a bit scabby and very red. Other times, he'll leave it completely alone for a day or two and it totally clears up. He mostly licks while he's in his crate (he does have toys/things to chew on...

Re: Reason for dogs eating other animals poo?

Ick. That's what Mina does and it's just so disgusting. We haven't tried anything with the pups, but nothing has made poo unappealing to the beagle. Mind you, she will eat anything, regardless of tastes. Pills are cookies, cardboard is a treat...we've yet to find anything she doesn't like the taste ...

Re: Reason for dogs eating other animals poo?

Oh poop vomit is the worst. All three of mine are poop eaters. Coda, my beagle, is well, a beagle...they have a tendency towards that, but on top of it, she's also very motherly and cleanly, so I think it might be a bit instinctual for her. I HOPE Mina eats poop out of instinct, because if we're not...

Re: Do you feed measured amounts or let them gourge?

Our old guy could have a bowl full all day long, and he'd eat as he pleased, we never had weight issues with him and we allowed him to free feed because it worked and was never an issue...until we got the dog who would eat herself to death. Literally. 18lb dog, who devoured about 6 pounds of cat and...

Urban Puppy Dog tags

found this Etsy shop, was wondering if anyone has bought any of these tags and if they're good quality?? They're adorable, but a bit pricey - want to make sure they're worth the money! http://www.etsy.com/shop/UrbanPuppy?ga_search_query=dog+tags&ga_search_type=all&ga_page=&order=&inc...

Re: New tags!

I love these!

I have to get my beagle the "I <3 cat poop" and "I'm with stupid" for Mina. Not sure which one "Stupid" will get, hehe.
