Re: Pup had his first set of injections today...

We were told to avoid dog-heavy areas like the dog park or walking areas where a lot of dogs frequent until a week after the last set of shots. We did take them for walks on the street and into pet stores (carried or carted) and we took them back to the shelter for visits as well as for play dates w...

Re: my

Our old guy had some crazy shedding, regardless of food, age, health etc he was a walking furball. I don't know if it was the APBT or the boxer in him as I don't have much knowledge on boxer coats, but it was insane the amount he was shedding all of the time. It did get worse in spring and fall as h...

Re: Nobody is helping. (Pika? Or What?)

That was Coda too. I sprayed bitter apple on things and she licked it off before eating the item. Nothing food/taste wise deterred her, but noise sure did. She's skittish with noise, though.

Re: Nobody is helping. (Pika? Or What?)

My beagle did this as a result of separation anxiety and boredom. We exercised her a lot, but not in the right way for her (nose work, finding things, etc) We had to treat her like a pup for about two years, crated every single waking moment that we didn't have our eyes on her and only her. She'd e...

Re: Amount and type of exercise

Well we did a 1.5 hour walk today, my guys will be 7 months in a few days. This is typically something we only do once a week, and we try to keep other walks to an hour or less for now. Today was a combo of exploring the water as much as they would, meeting dogs and people, etc. So it was pretty sti...

Re: Question about food for Ophie and Luke

I had this worry, too. I started feeding my guys large breed based on the advice from the pet store, but then worried that it could harm them if they don't break that 50lb mark. However the research I've found is that it's pretty much safest to put ANY dog on large breed food, before 'normal' puppy ...

Re: Leaking urine

You might also want to rule out bladder stones. My beagle blocked up about 80-90% with bladder stones and she went from having Mild, recurring UTI's and some leakage for about 1.5 years, to absolutely incontinent for about 3-4 days prior to her surgery. Poor thing was dripping urine and blood everyw...

Re: Doggie stomach bug?

I was wondering about this too. On Sunday Mina barfed, then she barfed Monday morning. Monday night Coda and Dante barfed within 2 minutes of each other. Now everyone is fine, and there is nothing they got into. Everyone just had the barfies for some reason. Coda is a frequent barfer (not enough to ...

Re: Greenish Discharge from Genital

The neuter might clear that up on it's own too. Dante has had an excess of discharge and his is also green. The vet said for him because he is neutered it should go away on it's own by a year old or so, since he's not producing hormones as much as an unneutered dog, it's just excess production of di...

Re: First week having my adopted puppy!

Be sure you're not feeding her too much at once. Are you feeding her once or twice a day? Most dogs do better twice a day and it helps reduce the chance they'll ralph it all back up and eat it again, which is never pleasant to watch1 Orijen is a really, really good kibble. My pups didn't do well on ...

Re: Not a running dog but a good walking dog?

It's probably just her personality. I have siblings and they're night and day. My male is crazy off the walls hyper in the house, doesn't stop moving, ears are always perky, sleeps with one eye open and ready to go, while my female is relaxed, likes to snooze and snuggle and just generally 'be'. She...

Re: At what age is this breed considered a senior?

FB I know what you mean. My eldest cat is 7, then the next one 4. My beagle is 5 and the pups are only 6 months...but with the differences in how long cats and dogs live (hopefully we're that lucky with the cats, anyways) I sometimes get this feeling of dread that we'll lose all of them within a few...

Re: unhappy/scared

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt (and the poop stains on my duvet  ) My guys got a wicked virus last summer that had them both sick for two weeks, but they cleared up on their own as the vet said they would. It was definitely scary, especially for my 14 year old guy, he was pretty ill and...

Re: acting weird

I say vet visit too.

Is it hot in your house? If not panting is a strong sign of stress or pain, and in that case she needs to be seen quickly so she can get some relief.
