Re: scardy dog and people selective.

I'm glad she was making some progress! That's one of the downsides, that we can't always control the environment, we can do our best to avoid the situation but sometimes it's inevitable. I just try to make it as pleasant as possible when it does happen. And as dog owners, we all mess up along the wa...

Re: scardy dog and people selective.

This video isn't exactly for the topic, but during the first bit where she's introducing the dogs to the items, that's sort of what it looks like. Rewarding the dog for interacting with it and creating a positive association. Keeping in mind though, you want to keep her under threshold (if she stops...

Re: scardy dog and people selective.

Shy dogs can take a lot of work and time to build confidence in. So don't expect a lot of improvement to happen really quickly, and take pride in the little improvements. My boy used to be very fearful of strangers, he would bark and growl when people got near. It took about 2 1/2 years to get him t...

Re: Help, my dog was attacked in California

Dog parks are accidents waiting to happen, you have no control over who brings what dog and even if your dogs are well socialized people often bring dogs that have no business being there. Here's the whole thread http://pitbullforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50274" onclick="window.open(this.href);...

Re: any vets online? penis dripping blood when excited.(HELP

When a dog is aroused the tip of the penis tends to be a darker red, since blood is circulating through it stronger then when not aroused. I wouldn't call that unusual

Re: TRAINERS TOLD ME TO EUTHANIZE!

Celest, just to clarify, the OP is not talking about an e collar the same way you are. They mean a slight vibration used the same way a clicker is used, to indicate something positive is coming. Doesn't sound like it... Sounds like being used as a "attention getter" so to speak. Maybe I'm...

Re: TRAINERS TOLD ME TO EUTHANIZE!

Okay... so is this E-collar something I should try? I'm unfamiliar with a few terms... So what I got from this is that I'm almost giving him the right away to take control of the situation.. too much space to act on his own? So I need to keep him closer to me, focused on me, and put a bigger gap be...

Re: TRAINERS TOLD ME TO EUTHANIZE!

You don't want to use punishment/painful stimuli of any sort when working with any sort of aggression. Think of it this way, the mindset of the dog is "This person is bad and a danger, I need to make it go away", if pain is added it does nothing to address the mental state. You want to wor...

I don't know of anyone who had used their weight pulling harness, but the design looks fine for pulling.

Re: Please send thoughts/prayers for my dog Misty

I always miss these threads! I'm glad to hear her surgery went well, I hope she continues to improve. I can't add much else as I don't have experience in that area. :x
