Re: Gaining Weight

Jumping for toys is different, this is a chase drive. She likes to play fetch right? So there very well could be a decent amount of prey drive in there. (which for the most part is what flirt pole is "activating" .. not the best term but it works.) Or it could just be a retrieval urge.

Re: Gaining Weight

Oh and flirt poles are long poles with some sort of string or rope at the end which is attached to a toy. For example I took a lunge whip for a horse and tied a toy to the end. The dogs love it.

I want to try "Thank you, I'm strategically starving him for a science experiment." and see what people say.

Re: Gaining Weight

Does she she get treats often? Are the treats deducted from her food? I had that issue with my boy, had lots of exercise but kept gaining weight. I 1.) Started using lower fat foods (was using hot dogs) 2.) If we had training that day with treats I took a portion out of his dog food. If you have som...

Re: Gaining Weight

If you're looking to shed pounds I'd start doing some cardio, biking, flirt pole, swimming would be good too. Tug's good as well, it builds muscle more so but still does help shed a few.
Speaking from results I saw, not science.

Re: Gaining Weight

Yeah, Pit Bulls can be good an hiding weight. I'd like to see more of a tuck if she were my dog. She doesn't look horribly or anything, It's just my preference to keep them lean. http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/ad178/i_heart_dakota/Second/DSC_0098.jpg http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/ad178/i_he...

Re: too skinny?

I'm not seeing all his ribs or spine in that last pictures? Still need a better one, still doesn't look too thin to me. Alice at a healthy weight, you want to be able to see some rib. http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/ad178/i_heart_dakota/Second/DSC_0087.jpg http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/ad178...

Re: Exercising Properly/Safely

Thank you for all the responses, they helped quite a bit. :) I'll do a longer warm up/cool down next time. And yeah, I get a lot of cruddy advice around here, every now and then I get one that actually had some legitimacy to it. I'd ask a local vet, but I'm iffy about them. (One said I should stop f...

Exercising Properly/Safely

I've started introducing more exercise into their daily schedule, primarily for getting Dakota ready for the competition this weekend. (I plan on stopping on Thursday to let him build some energy) At the moment, it's a good flirt pole session with some jumping, and my ghetto spring pole thing. (rope...
