Steve's feet.

Steve (Border Collie) has a horrible time with his paw pads. He's currently sporting a bloody stop pad AGAIN just from playing ball in the yard. He has a mostly-healed spot in the big pad of one of his front feet that I assume is from burning it playing ball. I really don't know what to do with him....

Re: Healing from a ccl injury - long and rambling

Luce had both of her knees done. The first time she had a traditional repair done. I picked her up the next day, and she had a huge purple bandage on her entire leg. Very fashionable, but, poor girl, it was mid-summer and I don't have a/c. Because of the support of the bandage, she was using the leg...

Re: Neutering your male...

imo, 2.5 years is a great time. he's completely done growing, so you don't have to worry about wonkiness with growth plate closure. he's had time to mature as he was supposed to. i didn't get to choose with my bullies because they both came from the shelter, but i waited with my Border Collie and di...

Luce had a traditional repair done in her first knee. She's 45 pounds and was a pretty active dog at the time. It has *not* failed and the knee was "remarkably stable" when the surgeon who did her TTA the following year manipulated it while Luce was under anesthesia to get her second knee ...

Re: leaking Urine

Yeah, definitely do the urinalysis. Black cohosh is something I tried for my dog for leaking. Didn't work, but it's maybe something to try. I have no idea what the dosage is... my vet found it for me back when we tried it. Also, DES is a different prescription medication used for leaking (info page ...

Re: Joint Supplements?

The word from the sports medicine vets I've seen is to start supplements (glucosamine/chondroitin/msm) at a year and stay on them for life. My Border Collie takes Dasuquin, which is a bit spendy. The other medication recommended (and said to be more "natural") is Glycoflex 3. My pit bull w...

not long. grab bowls. add appropriate food from the bags in the closet and run water from the tap into each to float the kibble. luce gets pills twice a day plus fish oil in the AM. steve gets dasuquin and fish oil in the AM. deliver bowls to salivating dogs standing in crates. close doors. (go upst...

Re: Urinary Incontinence... returns.

Since a urinary tract infection could be the cause of the leaking, it seems kind of backwards to do the Proin first and then look for a UTI second. I'd still want the urinalysis done now.
