Re: Bites, What Do You Think?

Any word? How's he looking?

We had a dog come in to work awhile ago covered with similar spots and the vet's best guess was black fly bites.

Re: Can exercising a young dog be dangerous?

i wouldn't do any sustained running or running on a hard surface for a puppy/young dog, but running the backyard on grass or whatever is fine.

Re: 2*2

i used a ball, but i was training a border collie and he's WAY more ball-driven than food-driven. what about building value in a food-pouch type toy? i got one of these ages ago and it seemed to work pretty well with mushroom, who is a food hog and has little interest in toys. but he caught on very ...

Re: OFA Hips & Elbows

Ooh thanks for the infodog link. I want to get my BC's eyes CERFed, but the clinic that my club holds is always at the same time as a flyball tournament we attend.

I use a joint supplement (Dasuquin for the Border Collie and GNC Ultra Mega Hip & Joint for the bulldogs) as well as a good fish oil supplement.

Re: Steve's feet.

i have no idea if the merle could be contributing or not. the only other dog i know who is this bad with his feet outside of flyball is black and white (though also a bc). @mtlu - no, he doesn't get walked much on pavement. walking him in town is so boring and with all the loose dogs, kind of danger...

Steve's feet.

Steve (Border Collie) has a horrible time with his paw pads. He's currently sporting a bloody stop pad AGAIN just from playing ball in the yard. He has a mostly-healed spot in the big pad of one of his front feet that I assume is from burning it playing ball. I really don't know what to do with him....

Re: Healing from a ccl injury - long and rambling

Luce had both of her knees done. The first time she had a traditional repair done. I picked her up the next day, and she had a huge purple bandage on her entire leg. Very fashionable, but, poor girl, it was mid-summer and I don't have a/c. Because of the support of the bandage, she was using the leg...

Mushroom has failed the test twice on the being left with the tester part. He made it to 2 1/2 minutes after we did a bunch of out-of-sight stay work, but I've opted not to continue trying because for crying out loud when am I EVER going to have to leave him with a stranger who is not going to speak...

Re: Neutering your male...

imo, 2.5 years is a great time. he's completely done growing, so you don't have to worry about wonkiness with growth plate closure. he's had time to mature as he was supposed to. i didn't get to choose with my bullies because they both came from the shelter, but i waited with my Border Collie and di...

Luce had a traditional repair done in her first knee. She's 45 pounds and was a pretty active dog at the time. It has *not* failed and the knee was "remarkably stable" when the surgeon who did her TTA the following year manipulated it while Luce was under anesthesia to get her second knee ...
