Healthy food and supplement questions.

Hello all, as an update, I first came to pit bull forum when apollo was 8 weeks old with no idea about what was best, but knew I wanted a very healthy well mannered boy. He is now 10 months old and 70lbs with probably zero percent body fat, and is about to be neutered and enter a good training progr...

Re: poopy question

I am going to pick up some yogurt and try to finish off this bag of blue I have now. Would it be sort of like the pumpkin, about a tbsp mixed in to 2c of dry kibble? Also, if he LOVES the banana and pumpkin purees, will it hurt him to give him some for a little variety? Wet food makes him explode no...

Re: poopy question

Thank you all for the advice. Where is the diamond brand sold? I have heard good things about it from you all but don't recall ever seeing it. I will try probiotics before switching & if it doesn't help within the next month we'll do another fecal test.

poopy question

Apollo, my 5 mo has been on blue buffalo large breed puppy for the past few months and I am extremely happy with how healthy he looks, acts, his coat, etc... but he has had consistently squishy poops. I was told fish oil can make that happen so I stopped giving that and no difference. I try giving h...

Re: Healthy House Cleaning (Long but food for thought)

Do the essential oils you add to these mixtures serve any purposes other than making them smell good? I have two cats and a dog, so the tea tree, orange, and lemon are out of the question. Are all essential oils bad for my animals/three year old? Aside from this point, I love this entire thread. Gre...

Re: Pigs Ears.

I have found that natural pig's ears do not upset his tummy, nor do bully sticks... if they do not upset his tummy how are lamb's ears, beef tendon, and pig snouts? I like red barn products thus far and he loves his chewies at kennel time, so I'm interested in some of the other stuff... but I know r...

Re: Can't find the perfect diet???

Blue Buffalo Large Breed Puppy. As per this forum, for my three month old pup there are no other foods as close to the >1.2% calcium, <25% protein and close to = 10% fat parameters given to me since his parents are around 80 lbs for an all stages or puppy food. (By all means, share if you know of an...

Re: Pigs Ears.

Thank you all, if it's best for me to stick to the holistic stuff at the better pet stores in VB, I'll just stock up when I make my trips there and avoid the grocery store all together as far as puppy supplies. I may give the pigs ears and bones a try... but it's doubtful. Since I make the trip for ...

Pigs Ears.

I live in a small town with only a food lion. Make a trip to Virginia Beach every two weeks where I get my decent pet foods, etc. At our grocery store there is a very limited pet aisle where I wouldn't really feed any of the food or brand name treats but they do have rawhide and pigs ears and smoked...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

I like going to Care A Lot because they seem to have more high quality foods & even a raw freezer but it seems like it'd be easier to just go buy the blue buffalo. That's about the only quality food I've heard of Pet Smart carrying, but if the best of my options (& from what I can see they'r...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Thanks so much, I've seen blue buffalo before but haven't heard too much about it. I don't know if I've seen it at care a lot or not, but they definitely have the prairie. Someone else mentioned that the prairie wasn't an all stages food, so I might have to go somewhere a little farther for the blue...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Thanks a lot, you all have been very informative. I'm going to read up on a few of the other raw stickies and decide on a kibble by this weekend.

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Thanks, I will look into a good kibble . But would it be bad to give him raw a few times a week in place of his kibble ? I do not know enough about it to risk switching completely right now, and I am not taking his diet lightly, but would it be okay for him to have a good kibble + raw now and again ...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Large breed puppies should eat foods with less than 1.2% calcium, more than 25% protein, and as close to 10% fat as you can find. This is nearly impossible in premium foods because quality ingredients creates rich foods, and rich foods are the opposite of what we want for large breed puppies. Does ...
