Re: Pigs Ears.

Thank you all, if it's best for me to stick to the holistic stuff at the better pet stores in VB, I'll just stock up when I make my trips there and avoid the grocery store all together as far as puppy supplies. I may give the pigs ears and bones a try... but it's doubtful. Since I make the trip for ...

Pigs Ears.

I live in a small town with only a food lion. Make a trip to Virginia Beach every two weeks where I get my decent pet foods, etc. At our grocery store there is a very limited pet aisle where I wouldn't really feed any of the food or brand name treats but they do have rawhide and pigs ears and smoked...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

I like going to Care A Lot because they seem to have more high quality foods & even a raw freezer but it seems like it'd be easier to just go buy the blue buffalo. That's about the only quality food I've heard of Pet Smart carrying, but if the best of my options (& from what I can see they'r...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Thanks so much, I've seen blue buffalo before but haven't heard too much about it. I don't know if I've seen it at care a lot or not, but they definitely have the prairie. Someone else mentioned that the prairie wasn't an all stages food, so I might have to go somewhere a little farther for the blue...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Thanks a lot, you all have been very informative. I'm going to read up on a few of the other raw stickies and decide on a kibble by this weekend.

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Thanks, I will look into a good kibble . But would it be bad to give him raw a few times a week in place of his kibble ? I do not know enough about it to risk switching completely right now, and I am not taking his diet lightly, but would it be okay for him to have a good kibble + raw now and again ...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Large breed puppies should eat foods with less than 1.2% calcium, more than 25% protein, and as close to 10% fat as you can find. This is nearly impossible in premium foods because quality ingredients creates rich foods, and rich foods are the opposite of what we want for large breed puppies. Does ...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

even when feeding kibble, you can still give omega 3-6-9, when feeding raw I still give omegas even when I feed fish on a regular basis. if going kibble, I would do a holistic, grain free type of kibble, something a long the lines of wellness, eagle pack, solid gold, etc. My cousin has an english l...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Puppies have demanding nutritional requirements. It is not recommended that puppies be fed raw diets unless you are experienced with feeding said diets. For every dog I see doing well on a home-made diet I see ten that are not... puppies change too quickly to take chances with your learning curve. ...

Re: Puppy Nutrition Questions

Fish Oil: Raw meals: One of my dogs started eating raw at 9 weeks when he come home from the shelter 4 years ago. I like to give hunks of beef heart, lamb ribs, chicken pieces and any other boneless meat to puppies. With regard to chicken though, I personally prefer to not feed wings, necks or back...

Puppy Nutrition Questions

I have an almost 9 week old apbt, still eating purina puppy chow he was on when I got him. This is the first change I want to make. I'm looking for something leaning towards organic and definitely aimed more toward a dog's natural diet. I know kibble may not be the best answer but you can't argue wi...

Re: Hi:)

I borrowed a book from my parents on the breed which seems to be pretty informative, but I do like the interaction of a forum. I am trying with positive reinforcement now, trying to wait until I can post more to ask more questions. Thank you for the info!
