Re: For Sale- K9 Nosework Video

Sure! I don't think it cost too much to ship to Canada, as long as it is comparable to US shipping I don't mind covering it :)

I will pop into the post office tomorrow and let you know!

Re: Diesel will NOT play with toys!

Some dogs have little interest in toys (like my dog!) and have to be 'taught' how to play.
Stuffing a Kong is a great way to get them interested, you can also freeze it with food inside to make the game harder.

Have you tried a flirt pole?

Re: Blind Dogs?

My Golden went blind at 5yo and one of my nosework friends has a blind dog as well (from SARDS). I would be happy to chat with your friend over email/phone, though it has been a while since I had a blind dog. And my nosework buddy has been putting herself out there as a resource for blind dog owners...

Vibration Collar

I finally broke down and bought a vibration collar for Apollo. And it is one of the best investments I have made! I am using it as a marker (to replace a clicker) and already Apollo's training has progressed leaps and bounds. We were having trouble when it came to shaping behaviors while he was look...

Re: Dogs that bite - a debate about training or lack of

just that ALL dogs need to be taught manners While it seems we have no idea what led up to the bite in this case, there's a big difference between "manners" and a dog being failed and placed in a situation where they are forced to defend themselves. Yes. No matter how many 'manners' or ho...

Re: Dogs that bite - a debate about training or lack of

I think if a 140 dog wanted to do any sort of serious damage, it would have been done. Dogs don't miss, for the child to only have a superficial wound, it was an *very* inhibited bite. Is there any more about the situation? Where they playing? Was the dog resource guarding? Prior incidences? Trainin...

Apollo passed NW2!

On Saturday Apollo passed Nosework Level 2 with flying colors! It was held at a race track, with horses walking around and everything so it was a very exciting and distracting environment. He was 3rd overall in the competition (he could have gotten first had his mom gotten out of his way ;) ). Now h...

Re: Bump?

Thanks guys! PITtsburgher, that is *exactly* how the vet explained it over the phone. I was only able to come up with the scary intestine thing on Google, though. Thank you Allison for the reassurance and doing all that research for me! I am having a phone consultation (and possible office visit) wi...

Bump?

For about 3 weeks Apollo has had a strange black-ish/red bump, about the size of a pinhead on his back. It bursts and bleeds a little, then forms a round ball and repeats. I went to the vet today but due to my sporadic school schedule I was not able to get my regular vet. Yesterday the little ball w...

Re: Starting to worry about Dolly and the baby

Thank you for going through all this effort.
At this point, I have no doubt that 99% of parents would ditch the dog. You are showing real responsibly and commitment, thank you.

Please keep us updated on how it goes with the behaviorist.

Re: Training the ALERT on k9 nose work

Well Congrats to you. I'm not here to debate. I have been doing scent work for ten years now and counting. And I still say you just cannot just jump into. If you have no clue on what you are doing nor does the dog. We are not talking about scent work for working dogs. K9 Nosework is a sport, specia...

Re: Training the ALERT on k9 nose work

Yep. K9 Nosework works for ALL dogs. I have yet to see a dog that could not be motivated to participate.

And the shelter here is starting nosework with their dogs, so I may be sending you some questions Amie!
