Re: Cone of shame-home alone

Kaytenmags gave me an excellent description (with pictures!) of her setup when I was going through the same thing. It is under my post "Alternatives to the e-collar". If you do a search of my posts you should find it. I havent been a member very long so I dont have very many posts. I have ...

Re: Torn ACL...

:wow OHMIGOSH! I am so sorry Kaytenmags! I can only imagine how that must be for you....and her. I have heard that if the body is rejecting the plate they will do that but I cannot imagine why she continues to chew it up now that the plate and screws are out. I am already preparing (financially) for...

Re: Alternatives to the E collar?

Well, we found out that Bella can still get to her leg around the inflatable collar. She sits funny (kinda like a human with her legs out in front of her) and if she sits to one side with her leg in the air she can get to her knee. UGH!!!! Now the plan is to drive her to the vet every morning and pi...

Re: Alternatives to the E collar?

Update: I called the surgeon on Monday and he prescribed an antibiotic. Everything was going well and Bella has been doing much better. That is until today. She managed to get out of her collar today and chewed all but three of her staples out! Her leg was gaping open. So, we rushed to the emergency...

Re: Alternatives to the E collar?

She was not given antibiotics with either surgery. The Tramadol and Rimadyl are the same doses as the last surgery. After the first surgery, she only took them for about 5 days before we slowly took her off of them. She never showed any pain so we called the surgeon and asked if we should stop the m...

Re: Alternatives to the E collar?

What course of take-home medications have you been given by the vet? Is this second surgery on the other leg or the first leg that was operated on three months ago? She is on Tramadol and Rimadyl. This is her first surgery on her left knee. She had her right knee done 8 weeks ago. It was about a we...

Re: Alternatives to the E collar?

Thanks for the examples with pictures. That really helps. I am a very visual person. I ended up taking her to the e-vet (same as the hospital where she had her surgery). She was screaming in pain and laying on the floor in a submissive pose shaking. They gave her a pain killer shot but pretty much d...

Re: Alternatives to the E collar?

Great instructions! Bless her heart! And yours! Bella is not doing so well with this surgery. With the first surgery, she was already walking on her leg a little bit by the time we picked her up from the hospital. We picked her up yesterday and she has not put the leg down yet. When we let her out of...

Alternatives to the E collar?

Hi All, My girl just came home from her second TPLO surgery in 3 months. The vet sent her home in the rigid E collar the first time. That was a total disaster. To make a long and very stressful story short, we ended up staying home with her 24/7 so we could leave the E collar off. I slept with the l...

Hi April! I just realized I typed "pitt" in my post! I cannot believe how nervous I was posting to a forum for the first time.
I am working on figuring out how to post pictures right now. I am a picture happy dog mom! :)
