I have been wondering about this too. If a dog is really dangerous (HA), do you euth her/him, or contact the rescue and give them a chance to take the dog back?

You're exactly right: It was $860. I expected it to be expensive, but I was still floored! It's worth it, though, if it gets Piney's allergies under control. I think he might be a totally different dog once he feels better. He's never been healthy his whole (short) life.

P.S. Guess how much our vet visit today cost -- with the vaccine, the meds, the testing, and everything. Go ahead, GUESS.

Thank you, Misskiwi! You always give me the best advice. The vet said it would take 6 to 12 months for the vaccine to work. I'm not looking forward to giving him daily shots, I'll tell you whut. She also said that we can't even start trying to vaccinate against his allergies until we get the seconda...

A new update: I took Piney to a board-certified allergist today. She gave him an intradermal patch test and says he is allergic to: Grasses: Johnson bermuda quack Trees: tag alder maple/box elder cottonwood eastern eastern oak mix pine mix black willow red mulberry Weeds: ragweed mix marsh elder bur...

That last picture is just too, too precious!

And Snoopy is a great-looking dog. He really does look like Snoopy!

Oh, poor baby, that must have been so scary for her! I'm glad she has you taking care of her, and that it wasn't much worse!

Heal well, Mexi!

Piney, how did you train him to accept this? I use one of those fingertip brushes, and he knows better than to nibble my fingers. He loves the toothpaste, though, so he's constantly trying to lick it off, which is annoying! I have been holding off telling this story, because it's a bad memory. My l...

Oh, I can reach his back teeth -- it's just the BACKS of all of his teeth, the part you can't see, that's impossible to brush because he's so busy licking the toothbrush!

So it seems like the average age for the first dental work is about five?

I brush Piney's teeth every day, hoping to avoid putting him under for dental work. But I can never manage to brush the backs of his teeth, so I'm probably only slightly postponing the inevitable.

Oh, poor Romeo. Allergies really are awful. Making it worse is that there is so much disagreement about how to treat them.

I strongly prefer uncropped ears. But if you have to crop, I like the longer show crop.

Thanks. There's actually a good allergist in NYC, but it takes forever to get an appt. Piney is seeing her on Oct 9 (I made that appt two months ago!), and again after he's a year old, to get an intradermal test for environmental allergies. As for what drugs he's taken, it's more like what hasn't he...

Well, Piney's diarrhea has gotten much worse, and he woke up vomiting today. So I'm fasting him for a day and then ... I don't know what. I'm feeling really frustrated, you guys. Every "expert" I talk to tells me that the other "experts" I've talked to are full of BS and that I'm...
