Re: UKC Weightpull Change

And THAT, I agree with. Killing it off doesn't serve any purpose but to piss people off. On the other hand.. do you really think they will kill off one of the bigger money makers for their registry? Dog Sports is one thing. Lot's of stuff and dedicated training needed in relation to number of entrie...

Re: UKC Weightpull Change

If a registry that promotes the "our dogs do stuff" philosophy, forces people to go out to individual specialized clubs (IWPA, APA, or what about CPE and NADAC for agility, etc), that's really lame. I'm not fine with it. *puts on Braveheart face paint* hmmm.. if you put it that way... whe...

Re: Sending a dog out to Title?

Easy mistake to make with talented dogs. I am learning, though, that the foundation is equally important to move through with diligence. The levels (in training and competition) do build on each other. It doesn't matter if the world's best handler can take my dog to stardom, really. The world's best...

Re: Sending a dog out to Title?

Do you have a guess as to why you are calmer with Red? Were you always this calm with her, or are you now more calm because you don't plan to trial her anymore? Or do you not trust Judge 100% yet?

Re: Sending a dog out to Title?

I have to agree with the previous post. Sending a dog out to title isn't only a question for bitesport people. It is a question that some people might ask themselves at one point or another with any dog when they start having success in training. The handler is generally always the weak link in the ...

Re: Open obedience issue: dropping on sit/stay

That's why I was always thankful with Emmy when there was a lot going on in the building during her sits and downs. It was a difficult balance, though. If there were just a few things going on, she was likely to alert bark. If there was way too much, she would get bored just as if nothing was going ...

Re: Open obedience issue: dropping on sit/stay

What Amie is referring to is the initial learning process for the down. We usually teach it from a sit. A lot of dogs will be waiting for the reward for a while and then try the down position to illicit a cookie. They learn this way before you even think about practicing for a CD or CDX, but it will...

Re: What is your favorite dog food?

but dogs don't exactly raid the corn fields for dinner, either. Maybe yours don't... but mine do!! (Note the Iowa state of residency) They also quite enjoy spilled soybeans at harvest time too... Isn't corn cob a large danger if consumed? LOL.. I was thinking the same thing, but then I figured I'll...

Re: What is your favorite dog food?

I am starting to think that "what do you feed your dog" is starting to fall into "who do you vote for" territory. I do believe that different dogs do well on different diets. A friend of mine has a rescue Dane that would not put weight on for anything. He looked like Skeletor on ...

Re: Tess is sick

Was suspicious about pyo, but figured they ruled it out via radiographs (since she had no discharge). Glad she is home to put Pirate into place before she has to get some more fluids. Fact that CREA returned to normal would make me think that the kidney values were just high due to dehydration. .. y...
