Sounds interesting, though I hope the prospect of appearing on national television does not end up being the motivation for those who adopt a dog.

if he is very lethargic, you might want to have his heart checked out. Not all vets (who are not cardiologist) can detect a low or even mid grade heart murmur. Some can, others have completely missed murmurs.

I browsed around this site. It's fairly biased. For example: http://www.dogsinthenews.com/issues/0202/articles/020224a.htm This article says a veggie diet is shown to make dogs smarter. But if you read the article: Two of these groups were fed ordinary supermarket dog food while the other two were f...

Bluey (June 7, 1910 - November 14, 1939) is the name of the Australian cattle dog formerly owned by Les Hall of Rochester, Victoria, Australia, which, according to an anecdotal report, lived twenty-nine years, five months and seven days, but the record is unverified.[1] Bluey's diet included regular...

Is he very motivated for food? If so, have new people feed him treats. Set up a few sessions with friends and family the dog doesn't see very often.

Insurance companies vary in their policies. Insurance companies like State Farm/ Farmer's do not have any Breed Specific policies relating to Pit Bulls in California. There is no BSL in Sacramento that would cause insurance companies not to cover the breed. Some insurance companies do have Pit Bulls...

I do have to comment on this thing people have about having to have Education/Credentials/BioChemistry, hes not performing surgery. He is not managing a "complex" animal such a human being. He is managing dog behavior. Dogs are very basic creatures, instinctual animals who live by a very ...

Maybe if I keep asking, someone will actually answer? Do you know for a fact, that he creates fearful, dangerous dogs? I see some referring to the dogs he works with as ticking time bombs and dangerous due to his methods, but I have not seen or heard any evidence of this, have you?? I would think i...

Two points regarding recall -- if you treat every time, the dog takes it for granted. The books I'm reading recommend switching to a variable reinforcement schedule. :dunno: Our three adult dogs have decent recall, including the deaf one. (Not that I'd feel comfortable letting them play in traffic ...

You know, I've used a lot of different methods, and I think positive reinforcement, hands down, is the most fun and effective way to teach new behaviors. That being said, using it 100% without any correction ever did not work for me personally. Perhaps I don't have that magic touch. I spent two year...

While I personally believe emphasizing positive reinforcement in dogs (with some correction) is the best method, frankly dogs aren't all that kind to one another when "correcting" behaviors. Mothers don't sit their pups down and say, "Now, honey, you're grounded for a week." They...

Funny. My female who was spayed at 4 months has great hips. Martin, who was altered after fully maturing, is mildly dysplastic AND had to have both knees repaired. Guess there are other factors to consider, like genetics. Yes, true, and there are people who chain smoke all their lives and never dev...

Also there are articles about Early Speutering being linked to HD! All my future dogs will be intact until they're 18 months old to 2 years old. IMHO and expierience they have a much better look and growth rate and less risk of health problems that are linked to early speutering. Courtney Do you ha...
